I am in 4-E and we have some snow. My son is down in 2-E and they got a quite a bit. He has been working 6 pm till 6 am shift and has not seen any deer out in the fields for a week or more ! He says he and his wife are going out Monday morning. I hope she gets a shot at one .

Don't know Willy. I am seeing deer in fields at all hours of the day especially in the early afternoons. In my opinion, the best hunting this time of the year is when it is bitter cold and we have snow cover.
I was out all day yesterday and saw 14. It didn't come together for me but they are moving.

My experience as well, although I'm not out with the flinter this year. They gotta eat, especially when temps are this low for such an extended period of time.
3" of snow here, but I can't remember this long of a cold snap?

I think the cold snap is a result of climate change.

You do know that weather and climate are two different things, don't ya, dave? Do you blame global warming when we have temps well above normal?

You guys are giving me great hope for the future!! Mebbie this couple week cold snap will reverse this past centuries sustained Global Mean Sea Level (GMSL) change that has risen by 4 to 8 inches!! The annual rate of rise over the past 20 years has been 0.13 inches a year, roughly twice the average speed of the preceding 80 years. Always nice to look at the positive things!!

Yep. And to most, the easy way is the only way.

Never heard that one, Stroupy. But again, weather and climate are not the same thing.

A balmy 6 above here in beautiful and tropical Saint Thomas. Sun is shining brightly, so snow blindness will be a factor today. The pork and sauerkraut is cooking. As usual, I will eat way too much of the stuff and will be the solution to the gas America needs, at least for a few days. Happy New Year, all.

Just got back from my walk, and it was cold walking, wouldn't want to sit outside this morning. Rabbits, deer and a pair of foxes couple of mice were braving the cold from the fresh tracks. Beautiful out not a cloud, blue sky, no wind to speak of...just bitter cold.
Happy New Year folks!

In the words of the eminent Canuck philosopher, Red Green - It is winter. Pretty much what I've always noted, whenever anyone complains about the cold or snow. 'Sposed to be cold and snowy this time of year, it's winter. Finished the club parking lot plowing early yesterday morning, so the trappies could shoot at 1 PM. Two of the "management team" showed up to clear the walks and trap houses around noon, I went to take care of some other issues. At 1:30 those two hombres were leaving, as no one showed up to shoot. One told me, at least we're all set for the Tuesday morning shoot. Pointed out that they were being overly optimistic, since it's only gonna be around 12 on Tuesday morning.

I was out from daybreak till 2'oclock on New Years Day. Truck said -7 when I headed in. Hunted the same farm I hunted Saturday when I saw 12. I didn't see a deer on New Years though. Lots of tracks but the walking was tough in the super crunchy snow. I saw where a busted some deer out on several occasions.
Sure was cold.

Took the lad out with me from 1:00 'til dark yesterday. I have 1 letter and 1 word to describe it all..... F THAT ! I took this Friday off to make an all day hunt of it. Guess what.... I'm switching that day off. High of 10 Friday. The lad asked what I was going to do if I got one yesterday as far as gutting. I told him that was a good question.

My son had a couple buddy's stay over Fri night and they lingered around too long on sat so I decided to scout out a new DMAP area that we didn't get to hunt much this year.As soon as I got out there, the sign was evident that deer were on their feet. This area is a series of steep ravines and older clearcuts. It's tough to still hunt because the deer have every advantage.I ended up seeing 5 different bucks and about 13 doe.The one buck was probably the biggest buck I've ever seen in the woods.I ended up discovering a small section of open woods that funneled between three ravine and went right into the top of one.Tracks were littered all over the place so I got a good wind and tried to sit it out for an hour.About 30 minutes into it,I see 3 deer moving pretty steadily in my direction. It turned out to be a doe and fawn being dogged by a fairly respectable 8 point.I figured it was gonna happen so I got ready but the doe and fawn never stopped in the shooting lane about the 30 yards.Ironically, the buck stopped right in the middle of it giving me a pretty easy chip shot.It was actually pretty rewarding watching him walk away, not having a clue I was there. He'll be a harvey wall hanger next year.
I got home and told Jordan about it and we was all hyped up to go on Monday. We got out there around noon and within an hour he had one down in that same spot. We'll have a treestand there next year.Coyote tracks all over the place as well.
