This ain't nothing Stroup. I hunted the Polar Vortex a few years back. Neg. 16, 35 below windchill. Saw deer all day, missed twice. My buddy took a big fat doe. Deer have to move to survive in this weather. I'm sure I'll see a bunch. Yep. They have to move to feed. If you know where they are eating it is a great time to get one. I think the coldest morning I hunted was -25. It wasn't windy that morning though. I'll be walking all day. No sitting. I'll find them.

We are planning on walking all day this Saturday. If we sit it will be the last couple of hours. I have some new spots that I want to hunt with a snow on anyway.

Sure they are eating them now.

What do you guys tie the fly's too ? And where do you find fly's this time of year ? Do you live trap them in the summer and keep them in a fly condo of some sort until you decide to tie them up ? Is this fly tying some kind of fly rodeo ? Inquiring minds want to know....... Flies......

You can take that good of a pic of tiny insects with fish hooks crammed up their rectums (creepy hobby by the way) but give you a 150 pound deer to take a pic of and it's so blurry it looks like your camera was smoking crack for a week straight............

In windy weather like this, still hunting is the way to approach things. They will never hear any noise you make.

My "flies", hopefully are 2+ feet under the ground right now, waiting to expose themselves after a warm, spring rain.

The guy that was going to hunt with me Saturday, bailed, as I figured he would. Don't know whats going on with hunters these days. We got good places to hunt but no one wants to go hunting. 15 years ago, the same guys were hunting every chance they got. Shoulda told him about that two man snuggie. That would have changed his mind. Hopefully that snuggie is the "side by side" model, and not the "front to back" model.

I'm hunting all day tomorrow! Can't wait to watch the sun come up! Good luck! I will be out all afternoon tomorrow in a tree archery hunting, then hunting all day Saturday with the flintlock. From this day forward, I dub you and bushmaster, "The Iron Ball Twins".

I'll take those first two flies if the asking price is only a dime. I might even throw in a shot of good bourbon.

The deer was well over 300lbs. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I dunno....my bugs are pretty picky about who they hang with. I can verify that 'cause they always seem to snag and leave me after a few cast!! Just the bourbon.......it's cold this am!!

The cricket ties look like they be killers. What did you use for the legs and antenna? They don't look like pheasant to me.

Gonna take a small thermos with me in my pack with some hot tea so at least I have something to drink. Last weekend my water in my pack froze solid. Not only was I cold but I was thirsty!

One of my most memorable deer kills came in 2006. Late season, using a crossbow, because it was legal then with an unfilled ML stamp, plus the property I was hunting was bow only.
It was probably 20 degrees that day, maybe lower, probably 20-30 mph winds. I set up a stand in a large hawthorne tree, yes, bloodied myself doing that. I spent the majority of the day in that stand, took a long walk to warm up tho. Half hour before dark a couple does came out into a food plot I planted for the PGC, and I killed one. My buddies were calling me freaking out that I was out there that long. They thought I was nuts.
Only deer I ever killed with a crossbow. The crap I took on the Bowsite over that, to this day, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth towards many bowhunters. I EARNED that deer, no matter the weapon used.
