How's everyone's Flintlock Season going?? Haven't seen any postings in our Flintlock Forum??
I will only be able to get the last weekend in which is ok as my freezer is bulging with my PA Doe & recently added PA Elk. Also, trying to work off the remains of this past summer's flounder haul.

I've had three family members go into the hospital on December 31st. It's been hectic since that time. Kathy's mom is on a respirator in a hospital back home.

Best of luck on your flintlock hunt with your brother. Be great if you can get him out. More importantly, prayers sent for God's healing touch for your family.

Seems almost no reports of flintlock kills anywhere I've been reading. Hopefully, this last week that will change.

I haven't been out yet. I love to hunt M\L season but I love to hunt it in the snow. Snow?.....What's that?
However I have been keeping busy trying to get smaller groups outta my .54 caliber. I had my patch thickness mixed up and was using two different thickness. That will give you a bad result.
So, I think I have it wired down as to what to do......I'm going to start at 80gr. and then 85gr., 90gr., 95gr., then 100. I have my patch thickness resolved and a fellow on a BP forum suggest trying the ladder powder loads. He stated that at 80gr. he pretty much got my current groupings, at 85.gr they got smaller, 90gr. smaller, 95gr smallets, then 100 and up the groups opened up.
All I've been trying is 80gr. or 100gr, or 110. Only because I have "fixed" measuring brass for that. I just never thought to pull out my adjustable one for BP. Powder increments in high power rifles makes a huge difference.......dunno why I though BP would be any different.
As for the hunt, I think this week I'll give it a go.

It is nice having the extra week this year. Weather has been horrible for the weekend warriors this flintlock season. Looks like this upcoming Saturday is iffy as well for this end of the state.

90 grs works best in my flintlock Yeah......the interesting thing is that in my .50 cal (Green Mt. barrel) I shoot the 240gr. Hornady Pa. Conical using 100gr. of FF Goex. That flinter is very accurate and consistent. I use the Conical because all you do is dump the powder charge and then the conical goes right in. No patch to deal with.

Got home from 4 weeks out of town Sunday, saw 8 doe on my food plot behind my house at 445pm. Set up an ambush Blind Monday about 50 yds from the edge of the plot. At about 5pm three deer appeared and were acting spooky, so I shot at the biggest. When the smoke cleared they were gone. I reloaded, walked over and looked around for hair/blood, nothing. Now it’s getting dark, walked Back to the house for a flashlight, searched for a while , no luck. Decided to quit and return at dawn. This am returned and found her over a steep bank I was afraid to navigate in the dark. It was a double lung shot thru an thru with a 295 grain power belt pushed with 100grains of goex 2f. PA pellet rifle 50 cal with new English flint. Shot was 60 yds and she went 60 yds. Tried to copy and paste a pic from my iPhone, but it didn’t work.

The last deer i shot with a flinter was late, damp and dreary. I thought I missed. Kathy said I hit it. Overnight it snowed a few inches. We looked for her the next morning, no luck. I had walked past a spot with lots of small tracks. I followed the tracks behind a multiflora bush. There was a hump in the snow, with fawn tracks. Yep, there she was. Went maybe 100 yds.

Yeah, it sure does, Bud. And then one day, before you know it, you get too old to have that fun anymore. You have to get some of it done before it is too late.

WAIT, I didn't just say that. Seriously though. He did the "retirement tango" right, and I'm planning on doing the retirement tango not quite as right as buzz, but sooner than everybody thinks I should. Gotta have some fun while my faculties, and general physical health are still in place. Screw chasing the almighty $.
