HCO2886 By Farina. Authorizes the Pennsylvania Game Commission to provide for two annual days of Sunday hunting for participants of the Mentored Youth Hunting Program.
* February 26, 2016 03:52 PM * Rep. Frank Farina * Legislation Providing for Sunday Hunting for Participants of the * Mentored Youth Hunting Program * In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would * authorize the Pennsylvania Game Commission to provide for two annual * days of Sunday hunting for participants of the Mentored Youth Hunting * Program. Participants would be able to hunt on two Sundays during each * of the following seasons: the antlered and antlerless deer rifle * seasons, as well as the spring and fall turkey seasons. * * * * Increasingly busy work schedules, as well as other obligations, may * limit participation in the Mentored Youth Hunting Program. However, * providing youths and mentors with two additional weekend hunting * opportunities could increase the number of participants going into the * field and further add to a positive hunting experience. * * * * The Pennsylvania Game Commission has not taken an official position on * this issue.

I have to say I'm totally opposed to this. This mentored hunting is getting out of hand. Yes, I'm "old fashioned", and feel this "bending over backwards", and catering to the young is completely overboard. No wonder the young people today have the attitude they have.

We live in the most backwards state.
They allow all the vices on Sundays, but something wholesome, like hunting, well.......
If they could tax it like booze and gambling, we'd have Sunday hunting.
Had an email exchange with our majority Whip last week. Clueless, just clueless as to how pissed the electorate is. I hope someday he and the lot of them are voted out.

Dutch, you can feel as tired as you want, but us "lifetimers" paid our dues over the years and followed all the rules and seasons.

Because we had to dig ditches by hand in the 1800's, we should not permit backhoes to be used today. Since people got around in the 1890s by horse and buggy and by walking, we should not allow automobiles today. Do these serve as a good examples of what you are saying? Because I did not have this particular advantage, nobody should ever have it. No rule I had to live by should ever be changed. What a selfish attitude. Sorry, but it is what it is. LMAO2

Agree 100% with TKs first post on this issue. Will we ever say, "Enough already, go back to your video game."?

You could allow everyone to hunt on Sunday and it wouldn't hurt anything. I don't see it getting passed though. The FB will have it turned down.

LMAO2 Laugh all you want. The selfish attitude is with the one's who want everything now. I was no angel when growing up, but I did have respect for my parents, teachers, the law, and my elders. Giving young people everything they want on a silver platter has given them an attitude of disrespect. I have watched for years the catering to kids with: not keeping score in sports, giving everybody a trophy, no punishment in school, hunting before legal age with special seasons, and much more. You are free to agree with all that, and I know my displeasure will not change anything, but I personally will never accept it.

So, let me get this straight. I am retired and can hunt six days a week; any day I choose to except for Sunday. I could care less for myself, but I am selfish because I would like to see kids have the option of going hunting on Sunday. So what I want is something that will benefit someone else and not me. Somehow this does not make sense to me. If I were selfish I would want to limit the number of other hunters in the woods so I would have a better chance of success. Wait a minute. Isn't that what you want to do? So who is the selfish one? ? smileys-whistling-823718

My grandfather never had a discounted license, why do today's seniors feel entitled to one? Sheesh. The people who need discounted licenses are those with kids.

Agree 100% with TKs first post on this issue. Will we ever say, "Enough already, go back to your video game."? Please stay home on Sundays. Do not go out to eat, drink a beer, or do anything on a Sunday. Seriously, the prohibition makes no sense whatsoever. The ONLY thing, other than buying a car, which is mostly banned on a Sunday. AND, the law does not specify that crows may be hunted on a Sunday, but in the 70's, the PGC made it so.... without the approval of the legislature.

That is exactly what mentor hunting does, thank you for agreeing mentor hunting is selfish. I'm still trying to figure out how having all hunters hunt in the same season is selfish.

What? Mentored hunting is selfish? To me? Not in a million years, but keep on twisting. You are actually better at twisting words than Hillary Clinton. Mentored hunting ADDS additional hunters. One of those additional hunters might take YOUR buck or turkey. That is the point I made. You have twisted the term "selfish" until it no longer means what it says it means in the dictionary. In addition, you refuse to address my point that I am not the selfish one since there would be absolutely no benefit to me. Go ahead and resolve that one, perhaps by explaining how I am selfish in wanting something for someone else that does not benefit me in the least. rofl

I personally don't care about more opportunity for myself, I care about it for others, and especially our youth, and the future of our sport.

The bottom line is this legislation is a futile attempt to get any SH legislation through. Too many baseless roadblocks from hypocritical legislators and hypocritical hunters such as Turkeykiller and Red Arrow that do the opposite of what they say when it comes to certain issues.

I used your actual quote. Webster's dictionary: selfish, overly concerned with one's own interest. I must say, having special seasons for a small group with no other hunters or competition in the woods falls under that definition. I've had numerous occasions where game was shot near me, and it didn't bother me at all, because they happened in an open season for all hunters.

Not sure what you mean when you say I'm hypocritical. Read my original post on this topic. I never said I was against Sunday hunting. I am in favor of it, if it is across the board for everyone, not special groups. Please explain how I do the opposite of what I say on certain issues.

When it comes to youth hunters, many of your statements have been hypocritical. "Paying their dues". "I had to wait so they should have to". And many others. Your actions and acceptance of many things is directly opposite of you positions on certain issues. It is what it is. Not going to get into every one of them. SH in this state will not change unless some powerful groups become seriously engaged in this discussion. That has not happened yet. With each passing year, demographics keep changing and the challenge of moving any hunting initiatives forward becomes more challenging as does defending what already exists.

Sheetz is behind an2 effort to get alcohol sales in retail. I applaud that. Any place that can sell cigarettes should be allowed to sell alcohol. Case closed. The Majority Whip told me he is working on privatization. Big friggin whoop. Incremental change is all he wants. Blow it up, and let the dust settle where it may. The present system is in place because distributors lobby politicians and seek GOVERNMENT protection. That is hardly free enterprise.

All I have assumed about you is that when you say you have done something, that you did it. Unfortunately, they are hypocritical to other comments and/or actions. It is what it is. Sorry.

I'll take MY Sunday hunting.
In Virginia, 2 years ago, they opened SH on private lands.
Yet another big "yawn", just like in NY and Ohio.....
We monitored VA, and you'd have thought the world was gonna end with SH.

So I am overly concerned with my own self-interest? Pray tell, how did you come to that conclusion? If you are going to accuse me of such, be prepared to back it up. Otherwise I have to come to the conclusion that you do not know what you are posting about.
