Just back from camp. I guess I am the only one to tag a buck, and I sure did see plenty of them. Yesterday morning, of course after I no longer have a buck tag, three passed me while I sat on a log just 150 yards from the cabin. Dave had the worst season he has had in recent memory. He only saw a handfull of does and had no shots. Larry got a doe the first day, and then saw several legal bucks with no possible shot at any. Crawford took a doe in Fulton County, but has seen precious little in the way of deer here. He did manage to fill a turkey tag. The bucks are in the walking phase of the rut now. They are moving, but not chasing does. The rut seems to be really late this year. While hunting in archery season this year I ended up seeing 11 bucks and only 8 does. On the drive home I saw two bucks, both legal.

I hunted Bedford County with a friend and after three days of hunting, I've encountered six rack bucks...one of which should have been harvested. Today, I witnessed an extremely large rack buck tending a doe and watched as he drove away a large four point off a finger ridge. With exception of that large buck, the others just seemed to be cruising around.

Well. Activity is picking up a bit. Seen 4 bucks yesterday. Two were legal but not in range nor big enough to shoot. I think it is finally picking up a bit. Now we have steady rain today and 35mph winds tomorrow. Sunday is going to be a beautiful day though!!

I left work at noon yesterday, grabbed my climber and took a hike.I had a good wind when I set up and felt good about the day.The area I set up was a pretty good funnel with plenty of big rubs.Right before 5:00pm a big doe walked right past me and never knew I was there.I felt even better about my choice and then about 10 minutes later, the wind did an about face and started blowing in the worst possible direction.Tomorrow looks to be a complete blow out so it looks like I'll be a rifle hunter this year.

Tomorrow looks to be a complete blow out so it looks like I'll be a rifle hunter this year. Season ends on Monday if you can sneak out for one last hurrah. I plan on sitting tonight in the rain then all day tomorrow in the high winds. Will probably take my IWOM XT for tomorrows sit.

Maybe I'll try the hang on stand, 18 ft up, that's 75 yds away in a big, swaying cherry tree! Lol

It just doesn't matter anymore if I kill anything Dutch.Just a matter of perspective I guess.I still have the need to be out there. It's just that the need to harvest game isn't there anymore.I had a doe come past last night and thought of shooting her never entered my mind, even though I had a tag in my pocket.I've passed deer almost every time I've been out this season.

Screwed up this morning.. about 0900.... A wall hanger basic 8 with a kicker off the left G2 and split brow tines. Lots of mass. Big boy.. probably 4.5-5.5 year old class. I WAS LOOKING AT MY STUPID PHONE!!! He came from behind me and was standing almost under my stand. I never heard a thing. By the time I put the phone down and took the drug store reading glasses off and grabbed the bow he had moved behind some briars and vines. Stood there for a couple minutes and then took off. Are we allowed to say "SHAT" on this site?

Glenn, I know this won't help, but been there done that, to some extent. A couple of years back I was still hunting toward my friend and his son. Just before I got to them I came across a deer trail coming off the ridge with the biggest buck track in it that I had ever seen. I stopped to get a good look, then the shooting started. I waited a couple of minutes, was sure it was my friends, then pulled the 2 way radio out, and turned it on, I knew better. The radio cracked with talking, the brush cracked with the sound of a deer leaving below me. When I got to my friends, laying on the ground was a 130 to 140 class 10 point. He told me there was two of them, he had the best shot at this one, but the other one that came from my direction then ran back, was larger. I still cry in my beer occasionally over it. I HATE 2 WAY RADIOS.

I WAS LOOKING AT MY STUPID PHONE!!! ) These Damn cell phones cause more grief at times. I know that when I'm hunting, I don't look at any txt, check email, or the like. I will look at the weather radar....'cause when rain is coming.....I'm going!!!

I do carry my cell phone, but it's set to vibrate, keep it in my shirt pocket, and use it to communicate with people I'm hunting with, when we have service. It also have a good GPS app on it, that seems to work even without service. But I HATE 2 WAY RADIOS.

Present tense is probably not acceptable. The question is, what would Dutch say?

Did an all day sit today in the steady 20 mph wind and froze my azz off. Ended up seeing 6 doe, 2 spikes and 2 8 points. Passed one of the 8 points up at 15 yards. Probably one of my dumber moves at this point in the season.

Back at it in the morning. Going to be in the 20’s, but the wind will be done. And yes Charlotte, it is a Sunday hunt day in Maryland.

Well tonight wraps up our PA archery season as we won't be able to hunt Monday. Of course in Ohio we still have a few months to go Sundays included. This coming weekend we will be headed down there for youth gun season. Their youth gun season allow bucks to be killed as well.
