While you have repeatedly mentioned hunters using camo, tree stands etc. as negative ways that imply cheating or not being skilled, you have yet to address that the evolution of hunting is based in those skills and many others that you deem to represent a lesser person.
ridge, bb posted the above in response to a post of mine. I never said any of it once, let alone repeatedly. Thought you were referring to me. You should use quotes so folks know who you are talking to.

It's hard to keep track of you guys. You may have noticed that I'm out numbered here and I honestly do not always look at who makes what posts when I'm away from the site for a while. Sometimes there are many that have come at me basically with the same stuff when I come back to the site.

Quite the opposite, Dutch. There have been loads of changes since back in the day, when I started hunting.

That's a pretty minor change. Is there opposition to it? Yep. I will give you one guess which group voiced the greatest opposition to it........... Oh heck, I might as well just tell you. Archery hunters.

This archery hunter does not oppose it. I think squirrel hunting is the very best hunting there is for breaking in a youthful hunter. But some pretty shady characters have joined our ranks in recent years, so we shouldn't be surprised

But some pretty shady characters have joined our ranks in recent years, so we shouldn't be surprised It was the old school archery hunters that oppose anyone infringing on their season that opposed the early squirrel season. Their argument was that they only get two weeks to hunt undisturbed deer and some even opposed due to safety factors.

No doubt. Many are. Even though I am a huge archery hunting fanatic, fall is hunting season, not archery season. I welcome all to the woods. There is plenty of room for everyone.

Not true. There is nothing more comforting to little 6 year old Katie, than sitting on her daddy's lap on a mild October afternoon, eating gummie bears and a x-bow propped and at the ready. stirthepot

I agree to a point Doug, but there for most people shooting their first deer and first buck is one of their most memorable experiences in hunting. Deer is the "king" of hunting so to speak. Also I don't think archery deer is that bad especially early season. You are sitting a relatively short period of time(2-3 hours) and the weather is usually decent. I do agree that squirrel and spring gobbler are good. An often overlooked thing is predator hunting with a call. It can be exciting as well. Of course under the stupid regs we have now a MY kid can only shoot a coyote that comes in. If a fox comes in then he has to pass.

I'll never forget the Game News story that a guy wrote. It was he and his little daughter's MY hunt. Archery and x-bow. I believe the story stated she was 5 or 6. She wore "Hello Kitty" boots to the stand, and he promised her a favorite snack for going. I'm thinking it was a chocolate donut if my memory is correct, and she was disappointed because he forgot it. Well, she ended up finally getting her buck of course, and in the end, went for her chocolate donut, so it all worked out. Note to PGN Editor: "Please proof-read all articles, and determine that they are fit and appropriate for the audience base."

By the way, I have nothing against wearing Hello Kitty boots to a stand, to a mall, to a dance, or anywhere else. It's my understanding from jj, that buzz gets along perfectly well in the woods with them, so who am I to judge ?

You can see the one stand from camp and the guy takes a backpack full of games, food, snacks, propane cylinders for his heater, phone etc...

I use to listen to my little brother and a couple buddies talk about the fun they have after Christmas chasing deer with muzzle loaders, so I bought a Flintlock and a tag-it's much more satisfying than whining about missing out.

These are likely the same type of hunters who prop a scoped crossbow up on a bipod and claim to be archery hunting. Not that there's anything wrong with that ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) , but it ain't archery. Again--------IMHO I had breakfast this morning with a good friend who is a 76 year old, retired army officer and was healthy as most thirty year olds 'till some recent health issues. He took a nice buck this year with a crossbow that his son bought for him so that he'd continue archery hunting this past fall, as he had done for decades. He told me it is the last deer he'll kill with a crossbow. "They can say what they want, but it's not archery hunting." I have never met a man I have more respect for and have rarely heard him utter anything negative about anyone. Everyone who knows this man has great respect for him and his honesty is a big reason for that. BTW, I told him that he shouldn't feel bad about using the xbow due to his age and health issues and he should use it next year. He say's he believes he'll be able to use his compound next year. I won't be surprised if he can.
