I have always been a Rem Core Lokt fan but several years ago switched to Hornady. Have an 06 that loves the Hornady 165 grain InterBonds & my 6.5 Swede likes the 140 grain SST in Hornady's new Superformnance line. Norma ammo is fine too but is purdy salty.

I use 150 gr Rem Core lok in the 06, 100gr corelok in the 243, and 20ga rem copper solids in the rem 870--I tried federal but didn't care for them--not saying anything bad about them, just prefer remington---I never tried Hornady. I should give the 165gr a try and see how the rifle likes them.

I don't think I've ever used a factory load. Have handloaded since I was probably 12 or so.

I used to do handloading till i got into MLers & before such outstanding custom factory ammo came on the scene. Now if i shoot 1-2 boxes of CFer ammo a year im lucky.
I do burn several pounds of powder though! lol

150 gr. Rem CoreLokts for the 30-30. I don't have the guts to try those Hornady Leverlution cartridges... anyone here try them and feel safe?
Pistol is loaded with Hornady Critical Defense and/or Hornady Custom JHPs. Otherwise, it too, gets whatever is on sale.
And...
40 gr. Federal copper-plated hollow points for the .22s.
The 12 ga gets whatever is on sale for clay birds. For hunting, whatever is on sale AND plated or steel.

It doesn't take any "guts" to use Leverevolution. I've used them in .30-30, .35, and .45-70. The gummy tips are completely safe.

IMO, the best ammo going right now for PA whitetails is Federal Fusion. All of the benefits of bonding while expanding significantly, at a cost comparable to basic jacketed bullets. For lever fans, Hornady LeverRevolution is all I shoot.

I don't use factory loads but for one rifle, a Marlin 336 T in 30-30. This little puppy will keep three shots of Winchester 150 gr. Power Points inside 1/2" at 50 yds. and I have yet to be able to handload better for it...so I swallow my pride and buy the Winchester Power Points for this one rifle. Guess that's my favorite brand of factory load.

I don't use much factory ammo either, Muab, but if I did it would probably be Federal Premiums. I found that it took a whole lot of effort to match the accuracy of their 120 grain load for my .257 Roberts. My handload with the 117 grain Sierra Game King comes pretty close and is less expensive to shoot, so that is what I use. In other rifles I get about the same performance from Federal Premiums. If I were to be shooting factory ammo that is what I would use.

I haven't shot a factory load in years,However, for the past several years,I've been using nosler accubonds in three different calibers and I've never seen such good consistant performance.I'm talking excellent accuracy in everything I've shot them out of and near perfect terminal performance from point blank range out to a couple hundred yards.By far the best deer bullet I've ever used.

Usta reload when I was really into CF shooting/hunting in prior years. Now I just buy a decent custom factory offering such as the fine selection Hornady has today.

180 grain core lokts. Never had a problem with em. Are you talking .30-06? The reason I ask is I first started hunting with a 30-06 and 180 grain Core-Lokts and they led to some of the slowest kills I've ever seen. When I switched to 150 grainers I was blown away by how much more lethal they were! The first buck I ever shot was right through both lungs at 75 yards with a 180 CL. He ran off and I shot him three more times before he died. He covered 200 yards after a perfect shot. This was with the round nose bullets mind you. I've heard the pointed 180's do a little better job but those 180 round nosers aren't fit for anything smaller than a moose!

You sure that first shot was your lung shot Mike?...Then three more hits on the run (assumption on my part)? All hits? Where? Give us more info please as I've never heard of anyone having issues with Remington Core-Lokts in any weight in an '06 on deer. Heck my doe I shot last week at about 50 yds. with a 50 cal. round ball bed down after a double lung (without breaking any ribs) within 75 yds of where I hit her. Gotta be more to the story. Muab

My Dad was a died hard 06 man for almost his entire hunting span while here. He experienced womewhut the same thing as Moosie with the 180's on deer. Now he used the ole 180 grain RN & not the PSP. She swithced to 150 PSP & had much better success. When I hunted with the 06 I liked the 165 grainers which is really popular.

If anything a RN Core-Lokt should open faster then a PSP Core-Lokt. More lead exposed at the nose.

(BTW...I don't have a favorite factory because I never buy factory....ever..except in 45acp) Now.....look at this picture of my rifle on the dead buck and look closely at the bullet types in the bullet holder: Now....quit screwing around and go buy some accurate ammo!!!
