And if I had my own Cabin I think I'd spend this time of year sitting in a Recliner watching out the Cabin window by a hot wood stove thinking about hunts of days past

There's a ten point where I hunt. I'm thinking next year if he's not a 12pt, his antler mass will be bigger. And yes....I hunt horns!!

It has been said Flintlock Season is "Low Impact" to the resource and they should be allowed as a weapon in our Archery Season? Well....we are currently entering the 3rd Week of Flintlock Season and there has been ZERO member Kills Reported here. Mebbie it would be best to term Flintlocks as a NO IMPACT weapon!!

I enjoy flintlock season. After blowing the snow around yesterday, I enjoyed the afternoon sneaking around the woodlots under a purple, blustery sky. I guess you could say I enjoy taking my flintlock for a walk. Around 2:30, the temperature just started falling. Till I exited the woods, it was just brutal. Not fun in the least.
I wonder how much bitching there would be if they flip flopped the archery and flintlock seasons. I've followed the posts on here about the possibility of a week of earlier flintlock season. Although I would truly love that, I'll probably never see that in my lifetime. Would I like an opportunity to harvest one of the bucks we had on camera this year...heck yea. I'm about ready to take the attitude of one of my grandpap's neighbors who I always thought of as a tremendous turkey hunter. He's long passed but one day when I was a teenager, I found him in his shop sharpening his mower blades. He had turkey feet criss-crossed on a wire beneath the ceiling. When I made the comment that he must be a heck of a turkey hunter he said without missing a lick, "Don't let that impress you young Akers, I kill 'em when I see 'em."

I haven't made it out yet today because I woke up with my heart in Afib. I want to get out so bad. I think I'm going to hop in the truck, run up to Sullivan and catch the afternoon hunt. If my heart isn't in sinus rhythm by then I'll just walk a hundred yards in the Woods and sit down.

Good luck Mike & be careful. I have occasional afib but pretty much under control with meds. Had the shock few years back that really helped along with exercise & getting blood numbers close to normal.

Last weekend I quit caffeine and sugar cold turkey. From what I'm reading that can trigger your Afib. Anyway I drank a couple Pops and my heart seems to be settling down

There's differing thoughts and flavors of wishes by members on the subject.
- One is, I'm fine with the current Flintlock season - One is, it's extremely ow impact, and it would be good to allow FLINT ONLY in archery, like WE allow archers in the late season. - One is, let's allow both flinters and inlines, under a limited draw and a temporary season for an early crack at a buck. GEE THANKS on the limitation, and NO THANKS on the very impactful INLINE inclusion.
I say, make a TRAD SEASON, and sell a TRAD permit for the early antlered season. Flintlocks, Longbows, Recurves, Atlatl (I jest), etc...

I could live with leaving Archery Season to run it's current 6-weeks(Oct & first 2 weeks Nov) but also allow Flintlocks during November's two weeks? Would have little or no impact to the resource plus would take no opportunity away from archers.

Even a separate license won’t sway it.

Even a separate license won’t sway it. Likely true but what the heck!! Mebbie would settle for one week? Dear Board of Commissioners,
I'm requesting that you consider adding an additional hunting opportunity for PA's Flintlock hunters.
I know many fellow hunters feel the current 6-week Archery Season running until 2nd week of November provides a lopsided opportunity for archers especially in harvesting a buck.
My suggestion for your consideration would be to leave Archery Season to run it's current 6-weeks(Oct & first 2 weeks Nov) but also allow Flintlocks during November's two weeks? This additional opportunity would have minimal impact to the resource plus would take no opportunity away from archers.
Thanks for Your Consideration,

Don't matter to me too much when what seasons are. At the current trend of hunters, opportunities will continue to increase and not decrease. I am a hunter and don't tie myself to one weapon/season. As a matter of fact, I want to spend more time chasing some other critters other than 1 with antlers. Actually did that a little better this past fall at doing that.
Archery however is becoming the dominant voice and will continue to be. It would be interesting to see a survey of the current flintlock hunters. How many are also archery hunters? How many would want an early flintlock season?

PA on average sells around 150K Muzzleloader Licenses of course some in that number would be inline only hunters. The 3 week after Christmas Flintlock Season IMO has sharply diminishing participation after the week between Christmas & New Years. Moving at minimum the 3rd week into November would be favored by all the avid flinter guys I know.

I don't recall ever seeing that posted, but I would guess that would be a pretty high percentage. WOuld they pick up the flinter over the bow? Don't know. Alot of guys I know just like the flinter for having some fun in the late season. I would really like to see a survey data. For the record I don't oppose an increase in flintlock seasons. I would guess adding it during the November rut would cause the archery world to throw a fit. I am surprised that there hasn't been a push to add seasons between rifle and Christmas?

I lean more to just a reallocation of existing Flintlock Season days vs adding more days. As I posted actual participation during the last 2 weeks of Flintlock Season is almost nonexistent per my time hunting. I for a number of years hunted the last week of flintlock(2nd week January) & never saw a hunter. The days are on the books but in actuality that's about it...the ole substance vs form concept.

Hey. Isn't this thread about flintlock hunts? I stand and still hunted from 700 to 3:30 today. Starting off at 3 degrees. Pretty frosty morning morning sit. I did see 6 does, a buck and a pair of coyotes from the morning stand. Had the hammer back twice but no shots. Spent the rest of the day still hunting. I ended up seeing 16 does and 3 bucks. Dropped the hammer on this nice doe at 3:30 at 40 yards to break a several year drought with the flintlock. Hit her good, but she covered 500 yards before expiring. No idea how. The entrance hole is right where the rear sight is.
