Also regarding SS. When they would send us the monthly statements with the years we worked and salaries thereof, I noticed an error. I worked for a company full-time, for 4 years, 87 thru 91. They had me on the statement as having a $0 salary in 1988. I ad to call the company and get it squared away. Some sort of accounting error.
Now it's my understanding, you have to create an account on a fed website to view that information, as they no longer send statements in the mail. I definitely have to do that ASAP.

Now it's my understanding, you have to create an account on a fed website to view that information, as they no longer send statements in the mail. I definitely have to do that ASAP. Started to take mind at 62, it's a game. I forget exactly how long I had to live before I would be loosing total overall money. If I would have waited until full retirement to start drawing, I think it was 80 something before I was ahead of the game. If you set up an online account, as soon as you do that, go to the local SS office and have them freeze that account from any changes over the internet or phone. I other words if you need to make any change to the account, your address, phone # etc, you must go to the SS office in person to do so. I had someone try and hack my Account one time through the internet. Got it straighten out at the SS office before they managed to get any of my money, caught it early. Any account changes now have to be made in person by me at the local SS office, had the wife's set her's up the same way. Once you get your account hacked, it's a hassle get it straighten out and your complete financial life back secured. As a matter of fact I would probably just go to the SS office and set up the complete account there, including internet access, if you can do it that way. Then have them set it up that any changes made to the account had to be done in person. One last thing, don't go in office with any sort of weapon, there's a nice female officer at ours that will take it away from you, this includes your small jack knife that you use to cut the end off your cigar, or clean your finger nails.

My FIL retired in 1991 at 61 yrs old. The company "bought" his extra year until 62, when he could draw SS. His wife, my MIL, was anal about all things finances. She calculated his break even point. They're both gone now, but he hit his break even at 80 I believe. I remember he and I had a conversation at the time about "house money". lol

I “ran the number” for my wife’s SS of taking it early or waiting until reaching the 66yr4month full retirement date.
I believe it breaks even at 17 years. We elected to take it early.
17 years….a lot can happen in that time.

It's legalized theft, seeins how you and the lass may pass away, and you can't pass any unused $$ onto an heir of your choice, or a charity, or a one-armed dancing gal....
