My son told me he needs a 375 H&H for Cape Buffalo in Africa. Since he's still in the Sandbox making mad jack he told to pick him up a new Browning X-Bolt and some shells. And I do mean shells! I took it to the range today and fired one 270 grain Remington and Oh my goodness! One was enough! No more!

And you were getting bored with small calibers?
Wonder what that would do to a 90 pound doe?

A man gots to know his limitations.... The 375 H&H is much like that old single shot 10 gauge you sold us.

And you were getting bored with small calibers? Wonder what that would do to a 90 pound doe? A nice clean kill. Holes on both sides. I killed an impala with my .416 rem mag. It destroyed very little meat with a rib shot. I used a 400 grain solid bullet.

Look....if you wanna shoot a heavy grain bullet......buy 'n shoot the 38-55. I shoot a 260gr. lead bullet at 1,600-fps with mild recoil. Granted.....I'm not gonna kill cape buffalo.....but I can tumble a rabbit over 'n over 'n over again!!!

Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know!! Usually, I have to chase them away when I try to fish.

Once again this gun ain't for me. Which is good because I found out I don't have a need for a 7 pound 375 H&H.

Mike, all you need is a 243 or a Creedmoor. 😂
I'd really like a nice 243 tho.

I shot my Doe this year with my 243 and the cartridge bailed me out. I had a 150 yard shot through the rhododendron and did not see she was quartering towards me. My behind the shoulder shot took out one lung, missed the liver, and exited after going through the guts. She went 200 yards but I had an easy blood trail to follow thanks to the massive internal damage the 100 grain Gameking delivered! Don't sell the 243 short! I would take that wound channel and that penetration on a Black Bear any day. That's why I carried my 243 for Bear a few days.

Speaking of ouch.. Moving to Maryland many years ago introduced me to the good old shotgun slug. Did you know (without looking it up) that a 12 gauge slug, before the move to sabots, was typically a 437.5 grain hunk of lead? Shot out of a smooth bore shotgun at 1800 feet per second produced about 3100 foot pounds of energy? A 150 grain bullet out of a .30-06 at a muzzle velocity of 2600 FPS produces about 2250 ft-lbs of energy. I never did shoot more than about 3 or 4 of those things off the bench to sight in.. If it hit a garbage can lid at 100 feet that was good!
