I may have it done for flinter season. I pretty much have the stock where I'm at the point of going to 150gr, then 220gr. Then to whisker the wood and on to "color" and tung oil.

Browning just the parts. Barrel not ready yet. What this pic shows is the parts just beginning to turn brown (controlled rusting) after about 5 to 10 minutes of applying Laurel Mt. Browning solution.

Thanks Gent's! I should have it ready by then.
My "other" project that I hope to have done by hunting season......or at least sometime in the season is my cart's conversion from lead-acid flooded batteries to a set of Nissan Leaf Lithium-Ion batteries. The weight savings will be about 400-LBS (yes.....400 pounds less in battery weight) not to mention much less maintenance and much more travel distance.
I was beginning to look at those Polaris UTV's. But the two door plain jane models start at $15,000!!! I figure I'd upgrade my cart for under $1,000.....and I still get out there to hunt!!

My browning came out great!.....Well, except for that part on the lock and toe plate. I missed just 2 area's in between the pan....so I thought I could be "very careful" and dab some LM in there. (Same kinda thing on the toeplate. Well.....the LM ran onto the plate.....so then I gave a total swipe to the plate. What I got was a darker plate....with the darker "run"!! Lesson learned. I just re-did the toe plate and the lock plate.

I now have all the browning done. The barrel was the last on the list. Now, waiting for the stock finish products to show up....also waiting for the front and rear sights. I will cut in the sights when I receive them, do the wood.......and one more machining thing is to drill and tap the flash hole. Then......to the range!!!

Front sight now in. Working on the rear sight. I got the rear sight in "blank" so I can make the height and width what I want.

Ready for the next step!!

The next step is an application of a stain that is actually more red than brown. The first step.....above picture....is done with a product called Aquafortis. This goes on the wood and actually turns a green. Then when you apply heat (carefully so you don't scorch the thin wood) it will turn the maple wood brown. This pic below is after application of the red over the brown. Now, it may not look like much at this point, but when I apply the finish oil (a clear finish) that will make the wood grain POP with the woods natural beauty. I'll post that pic when I have about 3 coats on it.

Thanks Rem, and all who commented. I'm itching to get it out and shoot.....but that's not going to happen until at least next week. I need to get those two additional coats of finish oil on the stock for protection. I could put it together....shoot it.....but then I have to take it all apart again to do the remaining finish coats. That's foolish for the work involved.
The trigger pull on this is really nice I haven't measured it yet, but my guess is 4.0 to 4.5 pounds. I didn't install a double set trigger as I read where if I place the pivot of a single trigger in the right place, the trigger would be fine. And I' happy to say it worked!!
I'll post a pic when I have it all assembled. Then a pic of a target when I get the load and sights wired in.
