Trigger, trigger plate, trigger guard in. Still need to file and sand finish the trigger guard. Gotta work on shaping the lock plates into the forearm, then onward to the front stock wood.

Helps me to have the lock panels done before final shaping, trigger guard last, just makes it easier to hold stock, forearm last, best tool on forearm is a block plane. How i was taught by allen martin, but there are many ways to skin a cat

Moving on to forearm shaping.....(I am only at 120grit sandpaper. Much more sanding to do to remove the small stuff and get ready for Aquifortis. I also have to inlet ramrod pipes and muzzle cap. Plus finish up all metal prep....including barrel.)

Next one try scrapers, much better than sanding less whiskering, more of a hand built feel to it...😉 take a replacable carpet blade and stone a burr on it, and a good kidney one for curves etc..

Ends up finer than 220.

I'll be at 400+ when I get to the point of whiskering it before I get to the Aquafortis. Check that........I will only go to 220 grit before applying Aquafortis. Then likely a tongue oil for the finish. Many coats of that.

I have never build a rifle stock but have build lots of cabinets, furniture and other wood projects. Proper use of a cabinet scraper, and even pieces of broken glass, is sometimes the best way to get a fine finish on figured woods. I hope you post many more pics of your work as you make progress on this rifle, Dave. I love looking at woodworking projects.

Taking measurements to beginning the ramrod pipes inlet. This is slow.......very slow if I wanna get it right. And, at this point, I don't wanna get it wrong!!

I got the ramrod pipes inletted, along with the muzzle cap. I also got the barrel tenons installed. Now it's time to shape the forestock. Gotta have the barrel installed when shaping to help support the stock and not have it twist and possibly crack while doing this. In a M\L, the barrel actually supports the forestock instead of the forestock supporting the barrel.

Trigger guards are the worse piece's of metal to clean up 'n polish. Just when you think you might be done......you flip it over and find some other spot that needs more work!!

Time to get out the glass bedding compound Dave.... One way or another you'll get through it! Muab Accraglass is on it's way from Brownell's. Some of "dat stuff" and a newly fitted piece where it's broken, plus a few small metal pins. It should end up as strong or stronger than the original. Thanks for you positive input!! Dave

Well, I have the replacement "piece" all ready to go. As you can see from the pic below, I've filed the stock end to attach the piece to, along with drilling two holes about 1/4" deep to accept steel pins. I will "glass up" the pins before inserting them and for the joint, I will use the acraglass provided fiberglass material to strengthen the joint between the piece and stock. Should hopefully all work out. I'll post a pic of the post surgery result.

Did some work on the lower part of the upper forestock. BTW.....my nose cap fix is now complete and the nose cap fits like a glove!! But I've been removing wood from the side center to the edge of the RR channel. Gonna take a break for awhile as it's beginning to feel like "work." Not good when your fun turns into work!!

I'm just about at the point where I can brown all of the "furniture" (muzzle cap, trigger guard, trigger....ect). The barrel needs draw filed and sanded yet. I also need to drill\tap the barrel for the flash hole. And then drill the "scary" tang bolt down thru the trigger plate.....tap the trigger plate and the rifle can be fully assembled.
I'm amazed at how much I've gotten done. OTOH.....the wretched heat and humidity has kept me from doing darn near anything outdoors. But....not complaining....this rifle project has been enjoyable!!
