So what do you all think about ARs for seniors? Scrap em. I might be a Senior someday and I'll be happy if I don't have to worry about them

Speaking of payments on vehicles, my wife calculated that the used car my grandson bougtht for $16,000 last year will cost him over twice that with the interest he has to pay.

AR's should be eliminated for Seniors only if they drive beat up pick up trucks! Lol
That covers both topics.

Since the first mention of dropping ARs for seniors came up and I polled our older club members, no one supported it. That goes back several years. One in his late 70s at the time, said if he ever got to where he couldn't ID a legal buck, he'd stay home.
With declining hunter numbers, it may make sense some day to drop ARs and let everyone shoot what they want to, but I don't see it yet? ARs worked very well in the area I hunt and only took about two or three years to show marked improvements.
My truck is now almost nine years old, with 104,000 miles on it. A new one like mine now runs around $52K. Sticker price on mine was about $40K and I got $8K off as a leftover 2014. Used prices now are ridiculous, but have eased a bit from two years ago. Interest rates are nasty. Think my loan was at 2.9 percent, payments were $265?

A new vehicle is one of the worst investments one can make. It is guaranteed to lose value the minute you drive it home the day of purchase. Most lose 50% within five years. It also amazes me that we can make refrigerators and freezers that last several decades. We have one deep freezer that was bought in 1967 that is still running. What percentage of cars built in 19ninety7 are still on the road?

Think also about all the geegaws and doodads that you can't get a car without. Do you actually need them?

Appliances no longer last decades. In the industry we view them as having a 5 year lifespan

Think also about all the geegaws and doodads that you can't get a car without. Do you actually need them? We bought a Ram 1500 Tradesman. Vinyl seats, vinyl floors. Has all the gadgets we NEEDED, just doesn't have remote door locks. Had that installed aftermarket, but it did have some shorts in it, then tore the thing out. We got that for $30,000 back in 2016. Love that truck

The last car loan I had was for a new 2000 Silverado extended cab. Even tho I had the cash for that truck, I took out a loan.
After 6 months, I couldn't stand being in debt, and paid it off.
Come to think of it, I've had three car loans in my life, two of them were before I was 21.
When I was in business, we never had a loan. Always put money back to buy our vans and machines free and clear

I was completly debt free at 34 years old.No car loans,no student loans and the house we built 10 years earlier was paid off.Kids changed everything.I spent tons of money on them and enjoyed every minute of it.I often look back and imagine where I'd be if I didn't do that.Part of me wished I didn't but part of me would do it all over again.I've never been into material things to show off because I never craved attention. Most of the stupid money that I spent was on things designed to make my life easier and to spend time with my kids.My kids are grown and I really don't need much else so I'm just coasting til the end.Everything in life is a matter of perspective.

The decisions I made early on, are making life now more enjoyable.
I now work for the fun of it, which is great.
The pressure is off!!

Exactly why we spent time teaching our buys about working for what you want, investing, how interest works, and had them start a ROTHs as soon as they started their first jobs. They also all learned far more about money in high school than was offered back in the day. My oldest makes makes over 150K and drives a 2008 Pontiac Vibe he hopes will last at least a few more years. His brothers are not as tight with a $, but so far they are staying out of debt except for small school loans. If the country lasts (and they don't make a marital mistake)they should end up pretty comfortable.

With that said, I would rather use that kind of expendable income for other purposes than a truck. Investments for my kids, grandkids. Property. Charity. Etc..........

As long as I had a reliable truck,I never much cared what it looked like. There's a zero chance I'd spend $100k on any vehicle, regardless of how much expendable cash I had. They just don't mean anything to me.Speaking of gas money,The county I grew up in has marcellus wells all over it.There was 150 acres behind the house I grew up in as a kid and it's where I started hunting.Several years ago a guy bought it for $200k.That was right when the Marcellus hit in that area and they put at least two very high producing wells on it.My brother is close friends with the guy's son in law and he told him that he was making like $8 million per year on each well.I just read yesterday that he's bought the local hospital that shut down a year ago and his foundation is reopening it.Pretty cool way to give back.

I've only had 2 new vehicles my whole life. A 2000 Jeep Sahara 5 speed with a straight 6 in it.(Miss it to this day) and a 2004 F-250 extended cab 4x4. They are both long gone and I've been fortunate enough to drive a company vehicle for the last 15 years. I couldn't even imagine buying a new vehicle at todays prices and interest rates, but I do support AR's. LOL
