But don't you miss the days of the full hunting Camp? And those guys were always such characters too. All gone now. We had a neighboring camp called the "35 Calibers". You had to own a 35 Remington to join that Camp. The owner would sit and tell me stories of how much better the 35 Rem was than the 30-06 all the while wearing a "this isn't a beer gut it's a fuel tank for a sex machine" t-shirt 🤣 Geeze,do you think you could get me a membership application for that camp?I am fond of those .35 rems lol.

We have those days right now. Camp Rip-N-Tear was pretty full for rifle season, and we had a fair number for a number of weekends during Archery and Bear seasons. Lots of tales told, lies swapped, and good food consumed. Rafters occasionally loosened by snoring too. Ya know, our camp was fuller than in a long time this year. Two nephews, one from Montana, three of us brothers, my daughter and her guy.

My buddy has a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. Darn think kicks worse than my .30-06.

I used a Marlin 336 in .35 rem in the beginnings of my hunting careerI always considered it to be a very mild recoiling recoiling rifle that was barely adequate.I hated that caliber.

Recoil is not much of an issue with me, Doug. Remember, I shoot a .300 Weatherby at big game, and consider that recoil to be tolerable. Some years ago I went to a meeting where guys brought their African double rifles. One brought a rifle chambered in .577 T-Rex. He had rounds for it that cost $50 if anyone wanted to try it out. I bought one and shot that rifle at a target. Now, that rifle had RECOIL!

My wife's 30-30 with 16" barrel and youth stock is rather sporty off the bench. It's a 5.5 pound rifle. Kicks more than my 308

Lots of tales told, lies swapped, and good food consumed. Rafters occasionally loosened by snoring too. To some extent I envy you. Had a good crew and an over capacity for bear season, but there was only 2 of us for deer season, and we're both well past our prime.

Some years we would clear 20 guys for bear and deer. Ran out of bunks and guys were unrolling sleeping bags on the floor. Last year I think they had three up for Bear. They did alright for deer but probably not more than ten. I'm just down the road from them. First year in my own camp. There were three of us

Back when my Dad, uncles & grandpap were living we averaged 6-8(all original camp members). The year after Dad killed his 383 lb bear we had 14 which was way, way too many for camp. Had to put up cots, xtra table to eat, outhouse issues etc. Truthfully...a real PIA. Each year after that it slowly dwindled back down and after about 5-6 years was just me & Dad!! lol Now I hunt with 2-3 friends in bordering camp ....hunt,eat, drink together but we each stay in our own camp. Sometimes I invite a friend stay in my camp when the Mrs(invitation ONLY ) isn't with me. I really like my current set-up...socialization when I want it & when I don't......got peace & quiet to enjoy!!
