In Karamojo Bells hands it would've been That Elmer Keith had it all wrong! I wouldn't say that. I'd just say there was only one Karamojo Bell

Did all of you non elk killers figure out the best elk cartridge yet? As a ONE ELK KILLER...as of "today" I'm pretty much settled if I ever hunt elk again I will be toting my Rem 700 30-06 shooting Norma Bondstrike Extreme Range 180 grain ammo(assuming im comfortable with range testing). My Browning X-Bolt 6.5 Creedmoor will be a back-up shooting Norma Bondstrike Extreme Long Range 143 grain ammo. As I said.....that's as of "today".

Yep……all I’ve been running through my 9 Browning Hi-Power, Cz97B 45ACP and 6.5 Swede for about last 10 years. Best factory ammo I’ve found and expect the same with their Bondstrike Extreme ammo.

I used to use it in my 257 Weatherby magnum. Where do you get it?

I used to use it in my 257 Weatherby magnum. Where do you get it? In the past I bought from Midway, Europtics(Montoursville store along Rt 87 or online) and direct from Norma USA. I lately found that direct from Norma has the best prices especially when they run sales Norma Ammo

I haven't applied yet because I'm still trying to decide how many of the darn Elk seasons I'm applying for. I just applied for NH Moose. I like that it's just one season. Nice and simple

Nice and simple You won't have enough vacation time for all these hunts! I get four weeks a year. But I would only go on one hunt. So far antelope is what's being seriously discussed. My son is the hold up. He is trying to buy a house and it depends how much that soaks him as to whether he can go this year. Of course if I drew Elk or Moose I would cancel any previous plans

I may apply this year for the first time. If I'd be so lucky to be drawn, a 65# compound bow if it's archery, and either my model 700 bdl .270 or my son's A-bolt 30-06.

I have a friend that used to go out West almost every year and took 6 elk and quite a few mule deer...all with his 270. We often discussed bullets & he was sold on the 150 grain for elk & 130 for deer.

There is one outfitter in Colorado, and I could probably find his site again if I had to, who recommends Elk hunters bring a 270 and 130 grain bullets

Jack O' used the 130 on everything. He didn't even like the 150

Brings back memories Mike!! Back when I was 14 & first went to our deer camp & was using a Win 94 30-30 Dad bought used for me to use my first year. I was saving money little by little that I was earning part time for my first new rifle. Well long story short there was an ole timer in our camp that was a 270 fan & all the rest were 30 caliber guys..... 30-30, 30-06, 300 Sav & 30-40 Krag. Ole 270(130 grainer) George knowing I was looking to buy a rifle loaned me Jack O'Connors The Rifle book to take home & read. Our camp members nicknamed George the Cat Rifleman!! Well by next deer season.... thanks to Catman George & Jack O'Connor I ended-up buying a new Rem 700 BDL 270 and joined ole George in taking ribbing especially from Dad!! He just thought I had to get an 06!! Was almost ashamed to put it on our camps gunrack!! Carried the 270 about 10 years solely shooting the 130 grain bullet(Rem Core Lokt). Killed a deer almost each year with it all mostly dropping in their tracks. Dad kept saying "lucky shot"!! lol Well...I finally gave in & traded the 270 in on a 30-06 Mod 760 like Dad had. Boy was Dad ever happy patting me on the back, sayin "knew Id finally come around" etc etc!! I did come away with a lot of respect though for what the 270 could deliver with Jack O'Connor's favorite 130 grain bullet. I was thinking of buying Jack O'Connors Rifle book just for memory sake but being the gullible gun nut I am afraid I may end up getting another 270 and go through the same cycle again!!

I had a collection of Jack O'Connor books. I sold them and bought a gun with the money. I had read them all anyway

But don't you miss the days of the full hunting Camp? And those guys were always such characters too. All gone now. We had a neighboring camp called the "35 Calibers". You had to own a 35 Remington to join that Camp. The owner would sit and tell me stories of how much better the 35 Rem was than the 30-06 all the while wearing a "this isn't a beer gut it's a fuel tank for a sex machine" t-shirt 🤣

We have those days right now. Camp Rip-N-Tear was pretty full for rifle season, and we had a fair number for a number of weekends during Archery and Bear seasons. Lots of tales told, lies swapped, and good food consumed. Rafters occasionally loosened by snoring too.
