Been hearing that too Stroup. Keep a lookout for the silent one that all of a sudden is on top of you. Best of luck!

This is a video from Sunday morning in Ohio. Ended up calling one of these birds in, but he came into my right and I moved when he went behind some brush. Evidently he could still see me though as he took off running. Click on pic for video. They were still on the roost even though the sun was coming up over the horizon. Untitled by cspot12, on Flickr

Hearing plenty of gobbling throughout the early morning. Saturday we called a longbeard up by one of our buddies and he was able to harvest him. Another friend got a 27 pounder with an 11 1/2" beard about a hundred yards away from us. We saw two longbeards with six hens and a couple of hens just walking around us. Couldn't put a move on the longbeards because there's no cover. Saw eleven turkeys total.
This morning, Tuesday, my son and I again heard plenty of gobbling and twelve turkeys total. Saw two nice Jakes with about 5" beards tending two hens. Hens were walking around, a batch of Jakes were still together carrying on like kids and one long beard that had his mind set on somewhere else. Season's still early and we'll try it again Thursday.

Got out Monday and Tuesday. Not a gobble heard either morning, but I did call in two Jakes, one of which I could have shot. Neither one gobbled. Did not drop the hammer. Too much to do at home to stay at camp any longer. Spent yesterday mowing. Today we go to Raystown to wax the bottom of the boat. Tomorrow, meeting with publisher. I may get out there again on Saturday.

Gobbling good in my areas and pretty receptive to the call. I haven't been out since the opener but they killed three birds this week just up the road from where I killed mine and my buddy killed one this morning in a different area.

I haven't been out and probably won't go until our hunters are done, if I even go at all. I'll wait until our Father and son team who started out here as a mentored youth 11 years or maybe 12 have finished their season here. They were here opening day and said it was the best day they ever had but did not kill a bird....saw 3 long beards and 7 jakes but could not bring them in. Lots of hunters on our borders confusing the birds but that's life. This morning we saw this single long beard so I guess at least one bird is still out there:

I haven't been able to get my son out before school so I've just gone out to listen.Haven't heard a gobble since Sat and only heard a few then.I've been through this many times and when they're quiet in the morning, later on in the morning is always better. That isn't in the cards right now.Yesterday I went out to my taxidrmist to get some papers signed and he said it's been real slow. This guy mounts a pile of birds and only got 5 in from the youth day and 4 so far this week.he said a lot of guys were saying how quiet they've been.Turkey hunting is all about timing.Find the right bird at the right time and things change quickly. In any event,it would have been a beautiful morning to be out there.

The gobbler pictured above is in our yard as I type this and our hunter is 2500 yards away up in the woods. But the gobbler is with a hen...should be interesting.

Headed out tomorrow morning for my first hunt since the opener looking to fill tag number two. The are calling for storms on and off all day. I most likely will head to the blind that I still have set and see what the weather does. The landowner sent me a picture of two toms in the yard yesterday so there are at least two left.

Way to go Gene.We have a bb game in the morning so my enthusiasm level is down somewhat.I intend on putting forth some effort in the morning but I'd have more confidence sleeping in and hitting it after 10:00am,not in the cards though.

Dave (every camp needs one) and I will be out at Camp giving it the old college (or maybe high school) try on Monday and Tuesday. I would love to be out there today, but Mugs needs his summer haircut and I have to assist the W 1 FE unit in that. After the haircut I will have to rest up for a day or so. Right now, Mugs is a really fluffy English setter. I'll post an after the haircut photo later.

I gotta admit to a couple of things. I was always told that if you bring a hunting dog into the house you will ruin it for hunting. Also, never let them sit or sleep on your furniture, and for sure, don't let them sleep on your bed with you. Mugs is one of the happiest dogs we have ever had. Yes, he is a bit on the spoiled side. Yes, he lives in the house with us, and sleeps on whatever furniture he wants to sleep on. Yes, he is a sure cure for depression. Oh, and by the way, he is the absolute best hunting setter I have ever had, and I've been a setter man since 1965.

Last 2 Saturdays hunted near Hillsgrove, Sullivan County. Quiet early then hearing gobbling about 8, but with hens.

Jordan woke up with a fever sat morning so I went solo for the first time in years. Not hearing any birda all week,I kinda winged it.I went to a decent vantage point in the morning to listen.I waited til 6:30 and started to walk after not hearing any on the roost.Right at 7:00,I got an answer so I moved into position, which was tough to do because the area is cut up with several ravines. As soon as I started working that bird, several more answered was off to my right. This bird wanted to play but he had some hens and it appeared that he was on the wrong side of the ravine. He was coming but he wouldn't cross and decided to walk around to the mouth of it to get on my side. Before he could get to me,5 jakes came in on my side so now I have 5 jakes within 50 yards off to the side and behind me,while he coming in from the left.He got within what I thought was doable and got nervous, most likely because of the jakes. He stuck his head up,went to walk away and Bam,lights out.I went back and ranged it at just a touch over 50 yards. These little 20ga with the right choke and tss are incredibly effective.

Nice work. That is a heck of a poke with a 20. Many people think if you don't hear em at first light, there are none there.
