Any flounder/fluke drifters here?? This Thread will serve to collect fishing reports, pictures, fishing techniques, regulation changes etc in connection with the wonderful sport of flounder/fluke fishing! I already have 2 trips in the works coming up in April which is only 2 month away!! Last year April was outstanding for the early run of big flatties. First one out of the gate planned at my Chincoteague, VA place with greybear, jr and acorn20 first week of April. Second one on tap is mid-April with Rich(35Whelan) and my friend Joe from Albany, NY. Joe was on the NJ Striper trip that Rich headed last year & is hooked forever and then some!! ;D Best of luck to all in the fast approaching season & look forward to your reports, pics etc!

Sure glad ya joined our fun drift here LH!! Be a lil while but last year April was red hot which aint too far off!! I know you retired that infamous "lucky straw hat" last year but if my failing memory still serves me...the new hat ain't doing too shabby either in the luck department!! ;D Got ur PM re Capt Bob's website...sure hope Donna gets it bak up.

I know absolutely nothing about flounder. Are they good sized ones?

Dutch, These are a little better then average for Delaware bay. The size limit is 18in and if i remember right the smaller one is 20 and the larger is 23 inches @ 4 to 5 lbs. However 30 inch 10 lb fish are not unheard of. One of these days we are going to put a 30 incher in the boat. Pics of my citation flounder from Chincoteague last year 27 inches @ 7.8 lbs The wife knows how to catch em too!

Some beautiful flatties there LH along with some outstanding eating!!!! Coming 2013 VA Season Info: Virginia was under their quota again last year so we can relax the regulations if we want to. These 4 options have been pre-approved by ASMFC. VMRC will consider these at the February meeting. The VMRC will consider four options for management of the 2013 recreational summer flounder fishery. The 2012 fishery was managed by a 16.5 inches minimum size limit, four fish possession limit, and no closed season. The four options for the 2013 fishery are:
1) 16.5 inches minimum size limit, 4 fish possession limit and no closed season 2) 15.5 inches minimum size limit, 4 fish possession limit and no closed season 3) 16 inches minimum size limit, 4 fish possession limit and no closed season 4) 16.5 inches minimum size limit, 5 fish possession limit and no closed season The purpose of this proposed amendment is to comply with interstate management plan requirements

Just read that Cap't Bob's in Cincoteague is opening-up 3/29(Friday). Was planning to be there 4/3(first trip) but water still way too cold. Trip has been pushed to 4/18 which i think will be in the first run time.
Can't be too long...this recently posted on Cap't Bob's site: ;D
THE BLACKHEAD SEAGULLS ARE HERE!!!!!! Posted on March 18, 2013 by donna For those of you in the dark about that statement, read on……….. According to the ole-timers (that lets me out) on the Island, when the ‘blackhead seagulls’ arrive, it is suppose to be the start of the flounder running. Of course, I haven’t heard a peep from the tackle shops south of us if anyone has seen a flattie anywhere and that’s where they hit first. Course, with this weather – I bet the water temp isn’t even near 55 degrees. I mean, it DID snow this morning!!!

Returned today from first Va Floundering Trip. Had extremely tuff conditions with winds 20-35 knots with abnormally cold temps in the low 40's each morning. My friend Joe from Albany NY was rockin on his very first flounder fishing trip nailing 3 nice flatties largest being 20" on first day out!!! He broke my balls big time re using lite 10lb test which I advised him against but he graciously took a pic of me with his 3 beautiful flounder caught on Day 1. We enjoyed a delicious fresh flounder dinner first nite. Joe will be emailing me more pics for posting up. Was so happy to introduce Joe to a very memorable trip even if he outfished ole Loggy!! ;D We boated 9 founder in 2 days on the water. One very windy day we took a break I showed my friend around Chincoteague Island including hooking-up on a Natonal Park Wildlife guided tour spanning the 35 mile Assatateague Barrier Island. Saw 5 eagles, tons of wild ponies sika deer etc. Had an outstanding time with my dear friend drifting in the magnificent Assateague Wildfife Barrier Island backwaters encompassing scenery second to none.
