Tomorrow will be the first trip out for the flintlock. Weather looks decent. A bit too warm still. Plan to sit some bedding areas and still hunt the edges. Going to pack for a all day hunt.

There was the "Just Say No To Drugs" campaign in the 80's. Well... "Just Say No To Kids" in the 2020's.

As my mom would tell me, your kids are not my kids............ Seriously though, she helped out when we really needed it but I knew not to push the envelope.

LOL... I hear ya! My pal up the hill, retired last year. Spent 38 years climbing poles. He cam past my place early one morning, and we chatted briefly. Said he was heading to the daycare center to pick up one of his grandkids to watch them. Said it is EVERY DAY ! between either he or his wife. I called him Daddy Daycare ! Unfortunately, in the year 2023, parents both have to work in most cases to make ends meet. Also as unfortunate, I feel not having mom in the house, tending after the kids, contributed to our societal fabric breakdown over XX decades. My wife was "lucky" enough, she didn't have to work during that rearing process. My little cherubs know full well, Fleroo will NOT be their personal "Daddy Daycare" in retirement. LOL You want 'em, YOU take measures to provide for them.

Just got a call from my 90 year old Mom that her prescription is ready......so im off on a delivery mission. Mebbie I'll combine prescription delivery trip with a lil smoker cruise thru Moms woodland since being 140 miles closer than Sully Camp!!!! With 5 grandkids thankfully down to only 1year old still in diapers. Least Mom's still changing her own diapers....as of yesterday that is!!

Said he was heading to the daycare center to pick up one of his grandkids to watch them. Said it is EVERY DAY ! between either he or his wife. I called him Daddy Daycare ! I am amazed talking to many of my older patients how many babysit their grandkids like almost every day during the week. When you dig a bit deeper, some relate stories of hardship with the parent/parents. Often times, the parents are doing quite well for themselves but refuse to pay for daycare or a babysitter. We have fiends that always take weekend trips and vacations without their kids. They dump their kids at the grandparents house. Me and my wife just shake our heads. There are a lot of selfish parents in the world these days that forget what their responsibilities are when they have children and a lot of grandparents that seem to enjoy being taken advanatge of.

"Daddy Daycares" son is in the workforce utilizing his degree in Engineering from PSU. Sonny was knocking down 6 figures, 10 years ago upon graduation. I'd hazard a guess, they are well over 200K combined, if his fairer sex spouse has even a modest income, as she's a degreed professional also. As is said. To each their own. Not me bro ! Flintlock Forum ? LOL

Just to add a final comment re Ridges thread diversion. The thinking that keeping your grandkids is somehow “being taken advantage of” is a prime example of how this world’s thinking has been sadly lowered to a “self only” mentality. We’re talking about caring for your loved family not animals. I don’t give a f if my kids earn a million $$ a year. I love and cherish my time keeping my grandchildren and am thankful for my ability to do so. Its really sad some cannot comprehend this.

It is really sad that some parents shuck their parenting responsibilities onto others all to often. This world's thinking has been sadly lowered to a "self only" mentality. A relative of my wife is a stay at home mom but has a nanny, lol.

I believe we two selfish, heathen ba$tards are thinking alike on this topic, Ridge. Cell-Cams..... not so much. It's not for me, but I also respect my pal and neighbor up the road, for watching his Grandy's (with the wife's help of course) each day in his retirement. I mean, I would have a discussion with sonny, and suggest he and his lovely betrothed, consider her staying at home to rear the Cherubs, seein's how they'll "get by" on an Engineers salary living in Western, PA. I feel like youngin's gain some positive, familial benefits in life, being raised by the same gal that carried them. But that's just me. The word, "priorities" come to mind in some situations.

Well I wouldn't call it a "washout", but you could have a better day than this for a smoke season outing. Good Luck ! Yeah. It sucked. Drizzled all day but I stuck it out all day. For my efforts, I saw zero deer, 7 gobblers and a bobcat.

I was out yesterday in Sullivan county for the evening which was an accomplishment since yesterday morning found me hunting pheasants in Lebanon County. Didn't see any of either. I did see ducks though so tomorrow morning I'm switching to duck hunting

I would watch my grandsons everyday if the daughter would let me. Presently 3 times a week and love every second of it! Not a fan of Daycare or strangers watching my boys

Last I hunted for Duck, was late 90's. At that time, you needed a PA Migratory Bird Stamp, and a Federal Duck Stamp (Sign it or else a fine). AND Non-Lead shot. I have no idea if that is all still in effect or not ?

Sat On the 17 acre wood lot I own this morning, from 7am till about 9:15, saw no wildlife. Did a 45 minute still hunt on same, saw one gray squirrel.. On the way out saw 10 skin heads on the neighbors posted property. Didn’t surprise me any, common occurrence. Didn’t matter any, I’m looking for antlers to put on the wall not meat in the freezer. Then again if I put antlers on the wall, I’ll also put meat in the freezer. Nice morning to be in the woods, especially with the new snow.

Another miserable wet day in the flintlock woods. Wet snow and a steady drizzle. I did see 6 does and the same 7 gobblers I saw Saturday. No shots.
