New thread to kick off the upcoming season, which for some of us is one of our favorite hunts. I will be hanging around south facing slopes and thicker browse, bedding and transition areas. Hoping for some real cold weather but that does not look too promising as of now. It would be nice to get a few snow hunts in this year but nothing so far down here.
Good luck to all. I will be toting my 50 cal Firestorm loaded with 100 grains of 2F pushing a 245 grain Powerbelt.

I usually look forward to flinty season. Love it so much. Having some congestive heart failure problems right now, which puts it in jeopardy, MAYBE! Hope springs eternal or somesuch. Just remember what Bette Davis said about getting old not being for sissies.

Looking pretty ugly for the first few days. Good news is the weather is going to turn for the better for hunting this coming weekend.

Perfect hunting weather for me was yesterday. 60'ish, with sprinkles of sunshine.

Looking forward to 1"-2" fresh snow coupled with temps in mid/low 20's, ZERO WIND along with low relative humidity.

Much easier to predict/hunt traditional thermal currents when placing stands or still hunting mountain ridges/benches.

My son had a 6 point come past him this morning. Pan didn't even flash. A half hour later it came back by him and the pan flashed but didn't ignite the charge

That is tough hunting. Your assumption was correct….exactly what I meant. The thermal convection/movement of air is NOT wind. Ideally with No Wind you get a predictable/natural thermal movement either up or down the applicable terrain you’re going hunting. Such pristine conditions are optimal for hunting least for me.

Just misunderstood your post that you prefer no wind. Anyways, I always prefer steady moving air when hunting. Whether that is thermals or wind. In flintlock, when I am hunting from the ground mostly, nothing warms my heart more than a stiff breeze and cold temps.

Ahhhhh yes. THE NUMBER 1 reason why ol' Fleroo believes they can add Flinters to the early archery season, meaning take a #$^%&*# BUCK, without a smidge of harm to "the resource". Archers joined the "Late Flintock Season ?" Turnabout is fair play I reckon ? The biggest factor of not harvesting the deer that is broadside in front of you at 20 yards in Flintlock season, is ignition failure, pan or charge.... pick one. The second biggest factor, is that MOST Flinters are not diehard enthusiasts that practice enough, or experiment with charges, etc... And MOST couldn't hit the damn deer at 30 yards broadside even if the #$%^&*^ thing does go off. LOL

I have one stipulation too. Which I suspect is a 180 opposite of yours.
