Are there really no deer butchers in Sullivan county? Closest I can find is Trout Run and Cogan Station. I used the guy in Cogan Station last year and while he was good, he only opens on Mondays. I had to take a vacation day to pick up my meat

Larry has done 2 deer for me in the last 3 years. Fast turnaround and reasonable prices. One deer he had ready for pickup very next day after dropping off(Early ML season). His shop is off Rt 87 before getting to Dushore(coming from Hillsgrove).

I just looked him up on Facebook and he posted that they will not be butchering in 2023. He said his family is worn out and they want a year off 😑

Quarter it. Throw it in and ice chest or two, and take it home

If you get a deer be worth calling. Larry said only the cell phone numbers are active.

Sorta nice having a processor close while hunting out of camp especially in warmer weather. The one deer I killed was dropped off late morning after killing and I was able to get evening hunt in plus next day morning and picked up processed deer on way home. Got home and dropped boxes of processed deer in freezer…..done.
Barnyard originally operated many years DBA as Lintzelmans outside of Dushore just off of Rt220.

So are they just doing deer for their loyal customers? Get a deer, call Barnyard & my guess you will immediatlely become a Barnyard "Loyal Customer"!! If I remember "CASH ONLY".

Loggy you should have mentally prepared me for that place. I was a bit taken aback. I think my wife gasped when we pulled in

I sent the FB post to Mike, but the FFA in Montoursville accepts deer, AT THE SCHOOL, for processing! That blew me away

Loggy's processor does a great job! The scene takes some getting used to though. I thought I was pulling into a scrapyard

Its a big problem around Pittsburgh to find processors. They used to be common but most have closed up. The ones that are left only have so much capacity and begin turning folks away pretty quickly on the high harvest days. The biggest one around me was full on the opener and would not take any more deer till Wednesday.

I took mine to the vac seal guy, and his place looks about like you described. That said, they have a dedicated small building just for processing and a reefer to hang deer in.

I dropped one off this past Saturday, I was the only guy there in the late morning. Love the Capicolla hind quarter.

I paid $95. And I normally do my own but I'm no longer going to sacrifice hunting time in order to cut up a deer. Plus it was the kids deer and his money. He also smoked a fork horn by accident which he had to donate to the PGC and shell out the money for the restitution fee

He also smoked a fork horn by accident which he had to donate to the PGC and shell out the money for the restitution fee Curious if they issued him another antlered tag? I know of several guys that shot sub legal buck, turned themselves in and got another tag, which I don't agree with.

Myself, I wouldn't get all bent with another tag issued if a fella voluntarily fesses up. Out of nearly 400,000 archers out there, there are 300,000 hack-asses amongst them that A. Cannot hit the side of a barn with their weapon, and/or B. Have ZERO tracking skills or the fortitude to even properly do so. So all that said, give the honest dude that turns in a mistake kill, another tag, IF the PGC seizes the deer. It's a comparative drop in the bucket vs. unrecovered deer.

Cannot hit the side of a barn with their weapon, and/or B. Have ZERO tracking skills or the fortitude to even properly do so. Many would say the same about those rifle hunting. We call a group up the road from us the gut shot gang. Every spring, like clockwork, I find deadheads from rifle season. Good thing about archery unrecovereds is that have a greater chance of surviving then rifle hit deer. I don't single out one group or the other as worse or better. Most archery hunters also rifle hunt. If they are taking bad shots in archery, they would also take them in rifle. Giving out tags for obvious failures to properly identity your target provides little deterrent to take that chance again. Hell, some here have said they they guess if the deer is legal or not before shooting.

Three different times this past archery season I had what I thought were doe at less than 30 yards. All three times I intended on killing the doe and when they got closer,I saw spikes.Had I taken the first opportunity,I had,I would have killed a buck.I can see how it could happen.Quite honestly, had it happened,I would have tagged the deer with my buck tag because I would have been pissed at myself. Then I would have taken it home and cut it up without calling anyone.
