I agree. Just making a statement, as to how many deer die of wounds prior to rifle season. So, a guy in rifle season makes a mistake, and owns up to it, I feel it's not a huge deal to issue another tag. I doubt that behavior by a single hunter, would be pervasive. Meaning, the same individual is calling the PGC year after year with mistake kills just to get another tag. Especially since they pay a fine (menial), and forfeit the deer I believe ?
So, per the conversation. Do we, or the PGC for that matter, know what the total count of "mistake" kills called in are year over year ? I would think very minute ?

He also smoked a fork horn by accident which he had to donate to the PGC and shell out the money for the restitution fee Curious if they issued him another antlered tag? I know of several guys that shot sub legal buck, turned themselves in and got another tag, which I don't agree with. Yes they did

They ask if you've ever done it before. I'm sure if you're a repeat offender you don't just get a $25 restitution fee and a new tag

My wife had a 4 pointer come by her that I would have shot. She described to me the spread, G2 length, and mass and I told her I would have smoked that deer. I wouldn't have called anybody either

If the PGC doesn't have the technology at their fingertips right now, to plug a hunters CID into a device, and see their yearly harvests, purchases, violations, etc... shame on the PGC

Thats crazy. I don't get it. If you don't mind me asking, what were the circumstances for the mistake kill?

He thought he saw a brow tine. It was standing in the thick stuff

I guess I expect more from our hunters. I agonized over whether to shoot a 8 point some years ago when it was 4 on a side because I wasn't sure if the brow tines were an inch.

My ex, the first year of ARs, watched a buck for a half hour, making sure it was legal. She shot, and it wasn't. Not sure what she saw, but it wasn't a snap shot.

She obviously saw incorrectly and shouldn't get another tag as a result. Just my opinion.

Thinking back, they gave us a tag to keep the deer, but I had to saw the antlers off.

I rememeber those first couple years of AR, the PGC talked a lot about reporting mistake kills. Probably for the reason you mentioned. Now, over a decade later, hunters have had time to figure it out and few new tags should be issued for "mistakes", IMO.

Where the hell have you been for past 4 or so decades you've been hunting ? Expect more ? I've seen stuff from "hunters" over the years, that would make a rational persons head spin. LOL Just because I tend to hunt... sometimes, doesn't mean all of those complete dolts out there that I have encountered, are my "hunting brethren". They're heathen REDNECKS ! LOL There's a fella on here that gave "proficiency archery tests", in order for hunters to obtain an permit to kill inside a gated community. Ask him what kind of faith he has in most of those people.

As my eyes get worse in my old age,I can see a mistake kill not being out of the question.Three or 4 years ago,I shot an 18" 6 point during archery season.I only saw him for a few seconds, new he was mature but his head was buried in a pine tree at a scrape when I shot.Had he not been legal,I wouldn't have stressed. He was mature and he still would have been eaten.I personally don't try to grow points on a buck.To me,they have to be "obviously legal"If I shot one that had a broken brow time or something like that,he would still be mature which is the purpose of AR.

There's an old adage, that is completely TERRIBLE to live by in my opinion, but has some merit. "EXPECT THE WORST, AND YOU'LL NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED !!!"

As time goes on, our hunter population will simply reflect the ethics of our general population. In other words, you are in for a world of disappointment. 😂

A family of hunters could run up a very steep butchering bill if they couldn't do their own. Back in the eighties I paid 35 and 40 dollars plus the hide a couple years. I was an apartment renter then and really didn't have another choice.
