My sons are in positions where they meet a lot of people. My oldest is an engineer for West Penn Power and was called out to a farm that had damaged lines from this weekends ice storm. He noticed several deer in the farmers field in the early morning and talked a little hunting with the owner. Turns out the farmer knows me from about 25 years ago and I know him.
My youngest son's a manager with Fitzgerald Auto and hooked me up with two farmers...one in Adams County and one in Franklin County. One of these farmer knows me and the one in Adams County had invited my son to hunt his land in archery season. All three farmers invited me to hunt their farms and desperately need deer kilt!!
When my grands come to our house they jump around in anticipation of Christmas. I'm feeling that same anticipation waiting for the 26th. I can't wait to hunt land that actually have deer on them!! And the best thing is these farms are all about 30 minutes from my front door.

Christmas eve. The day I traditionally get my flintlock gear together and organized. Run a dry patch down the barrel. Check the alignment of the flint on the frizzen and tighten her down.
I think the reason I get more and more excited about flintlock each year is that I have little excitement to shoot a doe in early archery and rifle. Come flintlock, a doe is the target and it is game on. The hunter in me gets energized for the hunt and the challenge of this very unique season.

May sit tomorrow out as the weather does not look to good for powder in the pan in this corner of the state.

There was 3" down. It had a crust in the middle and there was no way to walk quietly. That's how I ended up spooking the deer. Dry Run/High Knob road is closed and gated. So things are apparently hairy back in there. I hunted above my Camp

Most open areas around here have very little snow except in the shade. The dirt roads are solid glare ice.

Not even breaking out the Flintlock this season. 1st time in a very long time I won't be walking the woods with it. I just don't need another deer. Filled 3 tags and the ole freezer is packed no more room.

Hunted Tuesday, Thursday and today...Franklin, Bedford and Adams Counties. A couple of the properties are the ones I noted in a previous post as having deer. Saw one hunter on Tuesday and NO DEER all three days. Saw a lot of sign on the Franklin Co. property and the trails leading into the orchard in Adams Co. looked like elephants were using it. Probably eating drops from the trees. I was so discouraged I stopped on the way home today and bought an outdoor magazine so I'd have an idea what the heck I'm hunting.

Looks like a bad day for flintlock hunting tomorrow. Rain in morning and in afternoon here. I may sit it out and watch football.

Filled 3 tags and the ole freezer is packed no more room. Now that's a tradition I'd be scared to death to break even if it meant a 15 minute walk in Mom's local woodlot with my smoker!! Come on Bushy....don't risk what the Flintlock God's may curse you with!!

Been raining here since daylight. Its killing me to not be out there. But, maybe someone above had some influence cause my daughter has been up since 3am with the stomach bug. Just got back from the store getting electrolyte drinks and chicken noodle soup. Ugh!

I'm up here at Camp. I needed to refresh the batteries in my cameras. It's raining so I doubt I'll do any hunting

That didn't go well. My wife didn't want to get wet so she opted to stay in the truck in the parking area and sleep. She was startled by someone trying to break into my truck. She screamed and the person exclaimed "what are you doing here"?. She then laid on the horn so I would come. The perp jumped into the passenger side of a black pickup truck and sped away. I came running upon hearing the horn but they were out of there before I got out of the Woods

Thanks. She's ok but she had become more paranoid about being up there after our Camp was broke into and now I'm afraid this may have about finished her off.

Change of plans. I'm hunting Loggys favorite Gooseberry trail Mike...sorry to hear of your experience!! Glad your Mrs is ok. Were you up Hoppestown Road or back at parking area on Big Hollow Rd(back side of Gooseberry)?

Hoppestown rd. I parked right in front of the gate instead of that little pull off up the road. My wife was first alerted to my gas door lid snapping shut. So they're on to that trick of keeping your keys in your gas cap which is exactly where mine would have been had my wife not opted to stay in the vehicle

Too bad she couldn't get their tag number. Talking about balls attempting to break-in of an armed hunters truck. You could of been sitting just a ridge up watching. My friends truck was broken into up Camp Mtn road first lot on right. They went through window. My buddies half nuts so I assure you that the scum were risking their lives over stealing a pair of gloves & a $5 flashlight.
