Loggy....I dunno if you reload, but I load for every caliber I own except the little 32acp, and my 9mm. Factory ammo is to cheap to consider reloading. However, for the trusty 6.5x55 Swede there are load recipe's for modern action rifles that will push a 140gr. to 2,800+fps while keeping pressures within SAMI spec's. I use to load 'em with RL-22 but switched to H-4350 as it provides exceptional groups using a Hornady ELD bullet. Dave, b efore I started spending more time on the water vs the woods I was into reloading. Loaded for 22-250, 30-06 & 45acp. Now I do a lot of pushing black powder down barrels but not so much feeding centerfires. At best....I may shoot a box of cf ammo(o/s of rimfire) per year so to gear-up with reloading gear again....not even a viable option. The factory Hornady fodder in 140 gr SST/Interlock Superformance gives 2,735 out of the tube and is readily available but like I posted im sorta sold on the Norma 156 bonded Oryx ammo which provides no doubt on performance on deer, bear & most recently elk sized game.

The Ruger Ultra Lights are seldom accurate and the 257 Robert's was the worst of the lot. Ruger gave up on the Ultras because of all the accuracy problems. My boy has a Ruger 77 UL in 223 Rem. Admit it was a bit of a challenge, but with some bedding and a Timney trigger it's a bonifide 3 shot 3/4" rifle now. Has a great smooth bbl. that hardly fouls (one Ruger made) It was worth the "fix'n" because of the handling characteristics. Muab

The 264 did hit 3200 fps with a 26" barrel and a dual diameter bullet just the way Winchester intended. Once they axed the 26" tube and the stepped bullet that velocity became unfeasible. So the article is wrong just like every article these days that think they understand what was wrong with the 264.

Apparently there are alternatives now.

Interesting article Dutch!! Good history/background on the cartridge development. Sounds like the 260 Remington should of been called the 260 Creedmoor!!

Remington brought out the 260 with a 1:9 twist. Should have been 1:8. Makes all the difference. I looked at that Ruger Compact online today. I think that's the way I'm gonna go, if I get a new rifle. It's a youth sized stock. I put a youth stock on my Model 7 and love it! Great handling gun with cold weather clothes on

3212, I cut some off the stock of my former wife's Ruger UL, essentially it became a youth model. Them I put that youth stock on my Model 7. I enjoy both those guns and they handle well. I think I'll go with the compact, if I buy another.

My wife has a youth stocked 30-30 Marlin. When I have my heavy hunting jacket on I always notice it fits me better than any of my full size rifles. It makes me wonder what the hell I'm doing but then I can't switch to a "kids gun" can I? BTW that was rhetorical.

I wanna shoot what works! Might be another reason I'm not in love with this full size Ruger. Oh yeah, probably why I missed that buck in 2017! 🤔

Gun fit is a huge factor in success in quick shot situations.

I have a pre 64 Winchester 94, length of pull on it 13" and I'm sure it has never been altered. Boyd's stocks have a good video on how to your length of pull on a gun stocks.

If the rifle needs a longer LOP.....just superglue on a chunk of 2x4. Works like a charm....plus if you use treated wood.....no maintenance!!

I bought the youth model Ruger for drives in brush and wet weather.I wasn't so precise when I added the butt pad but it feels right. The small stock in the video looks like mine.

Over the past several years I've downsized my gun collection to 5 different Kimber Montanas for my son and I.We don't stand hunt at all.We stay on our feet all day and generally hunt pretty steep areas so nice light rifle makes hunting more fun.The kimbers all function and shoot well.Like any rifle, individual rifles may not feel right to everyone but we both like the way the Kimbers fit us.You would expect a 5lb rifle to pound you pretty hard but we both use hot loads out of a .308 and recoil is not obnoxious.I would think it would be close to minimal with a wimpy creedmore.

They're light, accurate, have an awesome trigger and just feel good when I shoulder them.I'm on my feet the entire time I hunt, going in an out of steep ravines because I primarily still hunt as I'm pushing deer to someone else.I bought the first one in .308 for my son the day after he was born.I liked it so much that I bought another one in .300 wsm.My son used a model 7 compact in .243 the first two years but started using that Montana when he turned 9.Since he started using that rifle,I had to go out and buy another .308 for me. Using the lightest gun possible is extremely impt when stating a youngster. The sooner you get them off a bipod the more effective they become. He ditched the shooting sticks when he was 10.The way we hunt, you have to be able to shoot offhand so when he turned 10,I bought him the same rifle in .223.I put the same scope on it and adjusted the trigger to the same 2.25lbs.I load him 500 rounds every winter so he can go out all summer and shoot offhand at the gongs I have set up.I liked that rifle so much, that I had to buy myself one. They may not be for everyone but they're perfect for the way we hunt. They are kinda ugly so I had the stocks hydro dipped on every one.I'm also in the process of duracoating everyone this winter.
