My son's been bugging the crap out of me for the past year to get him a GSP but the wife wouldn't budge.Last week I had him at a pheasants forever safety orientation prior to the youth hunt this coming weekend.Several guys were there doing demonstrations with their dogs and Jordan wouldn't stop bugging me.I was talking to R.S.B. and he had a kid bring a gsp pup over for Jordan to see.I snapped a picture of him with the dog and texted it to my wife saying he just one it in a drawing.Within moments my phone blew up with a series of irate texts but it must have pulled on her heart strings because she eventually folded like a deck of cards and agreed to let him have one.I just mailed a deposit to guy and we should have a pup in a couple of weeks.I personally think it's child abuse to not let a 12 year old have a hunting dog.

Well you already have horses so you will be able to keep up with the pup without docking one of it's legs.

They have the greatest nose I have ever seen in action, but they have that nose hooked to a dog that can out run most Greyhounds.

The guy has 6 pups and 4 are already spoken for, leaving one male and one female.I get the fifth pick and will most likely pick up a female. Why?Because chicks generally dig me and usually do what I expect.I'll only own a mare for the same reason. They can be hard-headed beeches with a bad attitude but once they realize that I'm the dominant stallion, they submit nicely.

LOL.My kid's pretty much get anything they want but they have to earn it.My wife get's what she wants because I can't take the bitching. For you younger fella's,here's a tip.Always make the women think it was their idea.If they get the credit, you generally get what you want. It's never a good idea if it was your idea.Buzz, like everything else at my house, the dog will be spoiled. We already have a small dog in the house and she literally follows me everywhere I go and sleeps right next to me every night. That dog was my wife's idea.

OMG you have no idea what you have done I have my second shorthair, the first was Heidi. We changed her name to Musha Hiedi, the terrorist. We now have Ada Alcada, aka Always Dumb A$$. These dogs are to smart and have way to much energy. Ada sleeps on a chair in our room and can tell time. I can't sleep past 5:30am because that is walk time. She is a very well trained dog but her nose gets her in trouble. Get a good book on how to train a Shorthair and start early or you'll regret it. They must be kept entertained or they will entertain themselves. You will be impressed how much imagination they have when they get into trouble.

You will find the book on "Training a GSP" by is size alone, it has 12 more chapters than " Understandings a woman" and you will be a better man by reading both several times per year.

Every kid should have a dog, no matter how old the kid is.
All of my dogs have been females, except the giant oaf black lab and he was a jewel in all regards. We had a yeller lab before him and another one now. Both were/are bullheaded and full of mischief.
That "make 'em think it's their idea" thing has never worked with me. I've never known one woman yet to fall for that.
OTOH, it worked well with the jack azz of a township building inspector we had here for years. Everyone had issues with his attitude, one contractor actually punched him in the nose once on a job site. To my knowledge, I was about the only person that ever really got along with him. Because when he started his crap, I'd wind up having him think what I wanted to do, was what he'd thought of in the first place.
Our township manager and one of the commissioners saw thru it, but never let the inspector in on the deal. Maybe because both were school mates of mine?

We picked the puppy up on Saturday and I'm pretty sure it was a wise move.Jordan never stopped playing with it outside once from the time he got up.We took her on a few rides in the truck and she seems to be adjusting. She also really bonded with Jordan which was my main concern. The deal he had with his mother was that it never went in the house.Well, her and I went out to eat yesterday evening and I knew the dog would be in the house when we left.I called that right and he told me how good she was blah, blah blah.I told him now wasn't the time to fight Mom so just put it in the kennel in the garage, leave her alone and she'd get used to it.he kept checking on her after I fell asleep on the couch and the dog kept throwing a fit.Apparently mom couldn't take him being upset so she let her come in the house.I figured she'd eventually cave on that as well but was shocked that she did it so soon. The dog 100% pure adrenaline outside but seems pretty laid back in the house.

Having been around dogs most of my life and having owned a fair number of 'em, there are two things about dogs that have never changed:
Dogs are a colossal PITA to have around much of the time.
Not having a dog, is a colossal PITA all of the time.
Not much middle ground on these, far as I am concerned. So I always have a PITA dog around.
