Well, you really can't argue with Loingbeard. He does know his stuff. I would not have trapped what I did without his guidance. Thanks Dave and I'm glad to hear your catching some stuff and having fun! Don't get to upset of thing being slow. It's been slow for everyone. This rain, snow, ice, wind , freeze and thaw and just plain messy weather has been tuff on everyone. Remakes are the name of the game this year just to keep sets operating. I'm glad the end is near... my dry peat supply is getting very low. Good luck and good to talk with ya! LB

Well, I will agree with that. The rain...turning to freezing rain....to snow to rain and then to ice is nothing but a PITA. Frozen trap set's are a learning curve for sure. But this is a great sport to get involved in. Can be very rewarding. I still would like to nail a coyote before the season ends. But time will tell. Again LB, thanks for your help.

i have the right sets just i cant get them i said my fair share of wonderful words this morning first off there was a set of coyote tracks within a foot on the one set. next a fox stepped on the pan of a haybale set!! my fault for not makin sure the snow didnt crust over but it did and the trap didnt set off.. a turkey got killed last night. looks like a war zone out in middle of field was done by a fox. farmer wont allow ground sets in field so im stuck with up on bales where they run in the evening. i think i shall go spend money on some gland lures.. oh bait was stolen from one also

Yeah, a fox latches onto a turkey and it's a scattered about mess of feathers. Maybe a leg bone left. No harm with setting your trap on the hay bail. But, you really need to cover it with fine straw. If your trying to cover\hide it with hay you may have 'em get away if the trap goes off and bigger pieces of hay gets caught in there with the legs. If you put gland lure on it for the bait, they will smell it and jump on the bail.

These bails are about three years old and these fox have this depression in the bail because they rum them four or so days out of the week looking for food. I have then kinda imbedded into the bail so it is level with the run so it doesnt seem odd. Might set some more today in the swamp. Tons of fox on trail cam back there. Im getting desperate as the season is commimg to a close I want to get something besides a grinner wait I got a bear I think that tops my list. Goal fox and a yote and ill be happy

Haha i got lots of people beat and i got proof i still cant believe it.Just set a boat load of traps on a frozzen creek. The fox coyotes and coons use it like its a highway found pinch points and set traps. It is a very low pressure area ive been waiting to set. No luck but yote was running around last night again

Yeah...Yesterday I checked mine. I had a fox "steal" the gland lure and his footprint was clearly in the snow......just one inch more to the right and he would have stepped on the pan latch. He circled the trap and came at the bait from the left. I'm guessing he had some suspicion of the trap. I must have somehow left some scent on the trap....even as careful as I am....I have obviously been.....(ready?).......Out-foxed!!!

He'll be back Dave. They always seem to. You know what killed the cat. The snow is great to have but it can humble a trapper pretty quickly when he sees all that walks by his sets and now you can see what you don't without snow. It will drive you crazy. I love snow for scouting but after that I'd sooner not have it. Unless I'm trapping bobcats. Then I'll take 12" of the white stuff all year long.

had a fox walk on two of my traps but we had about an inch of snow last night so the snow i had put on top of my traps froze under the new snow so they didnt spring. however on my last trap i had a rather large porcupine. she wasnt very excited to see me however.

Yeah....That's the gland lure I just began to use last week. I was using a different one that I purchased from the same place....don't ask me right now what it was.....but when I scored a nice grey on my first trap on the first night.....I figured it was pretty good stuff.

Son caught a nice red late last week in a dirthole set. Been seeing it for a long time on the trail cam, finally got it's attention and hooked up.
Trail cam yesterday showed a coyote wandering around the same area. Once this snow is over with, son is going to see if he can entice him into a set.
Winter sure makes trapping interesting, but perseverance pays off.

They can be and they can drive you nuts. After being god awful sick since the Tuesday before New Years I was able to get some traps out last Monday the 19th after work. I wanted to get a quick 6 sets out for fox but ended up getting 3 in because of the ground being froozen atleast 17" deep and having to use my sledge hammer to pound a trap bed in the ground on 1 of my dirtholes I was happy to get the 3 in I did. They are all in good spots that have produced in the past. So with 3 sets on a 70 property I ended up with this... ( not pictured is 1 big 2x sow coon) Location,Location and eye appeal are just as, if not more important then scent IMHO. Keep plugging at it young man and you will get it. Took me 2.5 seasons to pinch my 1st fox. I will post a link to a video that helped me more then you'll ever know. Best $30 you will ever spend. Leggett's foxes by the thousands is the video. Just a AWESOME learning tool for me. trapleggetts.com/trapping-books-videos.html
