Did an evening sit tonight and had a 6 point running 5 does around. Problem was they were in the next woodlot over. I was hoping he would push the does across a few yards to me, but darkness came first. I have passed countless does this year and am not sure if I would shoot one with the bow if given the chance in the late season. Now, with a flintlock is a different story.

Why ? A dead deer is a dead deer. The method of arriving at "dead" matters not to the deer. Oh, there is absolutely no way you're going to say that it's more of a "challenge" to take one with Flinter, correct ?

Haven’t made it out yet, too many Christmas obligations, hopping to take the smoke pole for a walk a few times in the next couple of weeks. I’m after a buck only though, don’t really need the meat. I’ve never killed a buck with the flintlock, and I’m starting to feel if it’s ever going to happen it better be soon. This 77 year old body hurts more and gets slower with each passing year.

And yes, getting one with the flinter still excites me.

I still get excited when I have a deer in front of me. It doesn't matter much whether I am holding a crossbow, a rifle, or a flintlock at the time. Maybe when I stop getting that feeling I will quit hunting. That probably won't be why I quit hunting though.

Funny...as I remember my Dad & Granpap also retained a similar level of excitement during their final years of time in the woods & on water. Thankful such was passed on down to ole Loggy.

Hmmmmm. Then what's your weapon of choice ? Atlatl ? I guess I have should have been more clear. Cartridge rifles. I have a longbow that I have taken out a few times. I would get excited if the opportunity arose to take a doe with traditonal archery gear. Maybe throw pistol in there to, which I haven't taken a deer with yet.

I didn't feel like cleaning a flintlock on Sat so I decided to take my bow out instead. As the sun was going down, three doe came by me at 45 yards and turned up the hill into some grapevines.I had zero regret watching them walk away and zero regret that I didn't have my flintlock.

Its gonna feel good to be 18 feet up this afternoon. Been since the 29th of December since I have been in the stand for the late season archery season. A few inches of fresh snow should make for some good hunting, but as I said before, I probably won't let one fly anyways if I get the chance. Especially after scoring in flintlock. Tomorrow look sideal as well. Wind chills are supposed to stay in the single digits but I will be out there for sure.

Pretty good evening sit in the snow showers. As soon as I climbed up I had three does come past 15 yards and watch them walk away. I ended up seeing 11 total. Trying to decide if I want to go out in the morning or wait till tomorrow afternoon.

The first three presented perfect shots. Just wasn't feeling it. Getting ready to head in now for a morning sit. A balmy 10 degrees. I think I am crazy.

Pretty brutal out there this morning. Saw three at first light then my toes told me it was time to leave at 10:00. Will head back out at 2 for the evening sit.

Ended up seeing 4 but at about 80 yards. Wind pick up which made the sit pretty tough. Lots of coyote tracks walking in.
