WAIT ! So they're the reason I can't find parking at a Penn State football game ? WTF ! Come in a dirty pickup with a couple of hunting and fishing stickers on the windows. Take the Shiloh Rd exit off Interstate 99 and Park at the top of the hill on right, in the game lands parking lot. Then hoof it up to the stadium, can't be much more than a couple of miles.😁

One thing I've noticed more and more, now that I'm not working full-time, is that in season stocking of both trout and pheasants occurs when kids are in school. You see cars and trucks parked at every bridge, and the guys pretty much all have gray hair. The guys out hunting pheasants all pretty much have gray hair. Just an observation. Seeing that Dutch brought it up, My thoughts on stocking fish and pheasants. When should they stock? They don't work on weekend or holidays when the school kids are off. Not going to change, unless the independent hatcheries do their stocking on Saturday. The reason you see us old guys fishing at bridges is because; Number 1, Bridges seems to be the major, and sometimes the only place where the fish commission dumps the fish. At lease that's what I'm seeing on my local stocked stream. Number 2, a lot of those gray hairs, like me, can no longer walk any distance, so we don't. ☹️ As for pheasants, not sure what the answer is, once again they don't work on weekends or holidays. I do feel the PGC does a good job of releasing birds in different locations on the game lands I sometimes or use to hunt. Which, thanks to Dutch and Kathy, and others, is now a game lands instead of a parking lot for Penn State Football games. Bottom line is, if you have the means to be fully retired and choose too, along with the physical ability to enjoy it, it can become "Living the Dream". The truth is, I no longer fish or hunt as much as I did just after retirement, 16 years ago. Most of my hunting now consists of a short walk and sitting on a stump somewhere waiting for a deer or bear to come along. Sometimes my son, grandson and a few friends will help make that happen. I may wet a line on April first, I did last year, but that will probably be it for stocked trout. My oldest grandson wants to learn how to fly fish, so I'm going to do my best to at lease get him started. Had him in the front yard last Saturday showing him how to cast the fly rod he bought at a fund raiser , then I let him do it. He has the basics, now to get him on a good fly fishing stream, during a good hatch, and let him go at it. All I'm saying is this, in some cases, older guys have certain advantages that the younger kids don't. I think we can give some advantages to them, without complaints

All due respect to your, and anybody else's feelings, but the "kiddie" card gets old. If somebody suggests "more prudent" ways of going about a PGC or PFBC regulation that involves "kids", then they're the next coming of the "Child Catcher" from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I was raised, everybody else on here was raised, and we all had our kiddie strife to deal with. I actually raised 3 myself... and they still like me... sometimes. Kiddies nowadays have more opportunities in about EVERY facet of life, than any other kiddie generation in existence. Does it hurt all that much to tell a kiddie, NO every now and again ? They'll get over it. Mine were fed heaping, helpings of NO quite often..... AND LOOK AT 'EM GO NOW !

Yes, you get a 10% discount because you are old, while the young family eats at full price.
Yes, we will stock pheasants on Wednesday, when you have first crack at them
Yes, we dump trout on Tuesday when you get first crack at them.
Gosh, this society is all about catering to older people

When I was in my 20s, I never thought it would be around for me to collect. They had "fixed" it in 1983 tho. LOL At that point, they raised my full retirement year by 2 years, plus raised the tax. I've always made it known that I would accept a cut in my benefit, if it would help future generations. That said, in reality, they did cut me in 1983. Id still take a cut tho. I realize that it wasn't a savings account. It was never "owed" to me, and always knew it was welfare for the aged. It was always set up that present taxpayers were paying present benefits, thats what so many missed about how the system was set up. I know people like you Bake will get something, but it will take guts by both parties to come to a reasonable compromise

And this has strayed too far, my own doing, I guess.
I think we all need to look at how blessed we truly are, and quit quibbling over little things, like giving a kid a better chance.

One last post by me that hopefully I can clarify where I'm at on all subjects debated.
This thread started out about the turkey population decline, so I will start there. I don't know what is causing it, and until someone can determine exactly what it is. I feel the spring season and fall should both be cut back to a two week seasons, and the second gobbler tag eliminated. I feel the the spring youth hunt needs looked at, because it's is being abused by so-called mentors, though I have no hard facts supporting it, just may gut feeling.
I support the youth trout fishing day for 12 years of age and under. I Do Not support the ability of the mentor being able to have in their possession a fishing rod, so he / she can also fish.
As far as social security goes, I paid into it with the understanding that once I reached 65 years of age, the government would give it back. and if I lived long enough I might receive more than I paid into it. If not, the amount I paid in would benefit someone that did, or if the Good Lord called me home before that time, my wife would receive a monthly check to help pay for the cost of raising our children. I will also add that I matched my employees social security deductions to the government when I had my own business., as did any other business. I do not feel bad taking it.
As for the 10% deduction that some business give retirees, or military veterans, that's a private business decision, and I also have no problem with it. But I will say, I will purchase meals or materials from them more often than those private business that don't give the discount.
Done

I have heard them gobbling behind our house almost every morning for more than a week. A friend of my brother's said there were two gobblers fighting with a few others watching them in our field across the road yesterday. There was a flock of 8-10 gobblers hanging around the place since archery season. Maybe some hens have shown up. I've seen very few of them for a while.

I have lived in Happy Valley most of my 76 years. I attended PSU for two years, and I retired from PSU. I have never been to a PSU football game. The hassle isn't worth it as far as I'm concerned.
