That was my first true guided hunt. Did one in Alabama and some similar where they’d drop you off at stands but not a “one on one” guide. I never realized the value of guided but now I do. Amazing what you can learn from professionals. May I ask what they charge here in PA? Was always curious about that Pricing for a hunt varies greatly from outfitter to outfitter plus also is based upon your expectations(lodging type/location, meals, level/type of personal guiding, number of days, elk extraction/processing needs etc). My experiece on checking on pricing .....it's highly customized to each individual and based upon what you personally work out with the outfitter. Likely why you rarely will see any prices posted on PA Elk Guides websites(those that even have a site). Many outfitters are small plus family run not similar to large commercial "cookie cut" type guiding operations. I know during my week at elk camp none of the hunters discussed what they were paying as the service etc varied between individuals. Haven't a clue whether I was paying more, less or same as them. Those interested....best to just pick-up the phone and call guide to discuss your hunt's guiding service expectations. EDIT: Found one outfitter who posts prices(not sure if priceincludes lodging)...best to call Quehanna Outfitters

While in HuntFish checking the status of my 10-Year Sr Trout Permit I noticed that under the Hunting License section the Elk Application Season choices are already posted for purchasing. I may buy mine to get it out of the way thinking about the upcoming potential chaos when the Antlerless Online process is first "implemented" in June! lol

Guess being in my 70's and never before applying, this would be a total waste of time... Do you live in Elk or Cameron Counties or are related to someone that does or related to someone within the Elk Country Alliance? If so your odds are better than mine, lol.

But I am a non-resident... Sounds like maybe that would increase my odds... LOL Maybe they should have a drawing for senior citizens... What do you think Larry... Just kidding... I think the playing field should be level for everyone... I'm against letting seniors shoot lesser bucks, antler restrictions should be the same for everyone..

Anyone input their 2023 Elk lottery application yet? I put my in 2 weeks ago getting it out of the way...thinking that on 6/26 the First Day online hunting license application system may be a lil clogged up with the new(NON-Pink) antlerless license launch.

I'd almost rather get drawn for a Cow but they say they're a lot tougher to get. While hunting I've only ever seen Bulls so I believe them

That was my experience. In 2020 I could of bagged a bull within the first few hours of Day 1 & ended up filling my antlerless tag around noon of Day 2. I was happy drawing any tag in 2020....same goes for today.

It really depends on where you draw a tag.The elk are tame in some places and pretty cagey in other areas.Several years ago we had a herd of about 14 move in.The only time they were ever spotted was at night but as soon as the light hit them, they were gone.I heard them bugling behind my barn, saw plenty of rubs, tracks and even got a few trail cam pictures.I never laid my eyes on them during the day and that was during archery season.I've gotten quite a few trail cam pictures within 1/2 mile of my house and seen sign quite a bit but I've never actually seen one, except for at night.About 6-7 miles away,I've seen over 50 at a time.

I drew my 2020 Late Season Cow Tag for Zone 2 which historically was a cake walk but quickly learned not the case. Last 2-3 years there were a number of unfilled tags there. Killed mine on SGL 311.
Just ask the Injuns!!

SGL 311 is on Winslow hill, which is the heart of the heaviest concentration of elk in the state.

SGL 311 is on Winslow hill, which is the heart of the heaviest concentration of elk in the state. Yup....certainly won't dispute that as pre-hunt early morning first day I saw 50-75 elk within 100 yards from Winslow Viewing parking lot!! lol

I'm sure you're familiar with Winslow hill so you know it has tons of open areas for people to view them. Those areas are off limits but SGL 311 is just past the viewing areas.During a late season hunt,I could envision a high percentage of those elk concentrating in the open areas, off limits to hunting. That's where you find most of them because Rocky mountain elk are grazers.Off to the left of winslow hill, are the Thunder mountain equestrian trails that go through Elk state forest.I've ridden them several times and can't remember actually seeing any while we were riding but It's all through the woods.Same hill, just different habitat.Several years ago,I took both kids camping with the horses at that campground before the Bennzette store. We crossed the Bennetts branch every day and rode that entire mountain. The only elk we saw all weekend was a small bull near the campground.I had the kids all psyched up that we were gonna see hundreds of elk have bulls keeping us up at night with their bugles. If you ever hire an elk guide, don't hire me.Actually, they're pretty easy to find.Just search out the open areas that were created for them.
