Pure sheet luck shot. Sorry, it is But Dutch.....didn't you know that a 200 YARD shot on a running deer is a piece of cake!! Buzz even says he "does plenty that way"!! It's just your "lack of ability" kinda thing Dutch!! Add me to that to Buzz's "lack of ability" list too plus my guess also add 99.99 percent of ALL PA Hunters notwithstanding Buzz of course...... the infamous "Bradford County Sharpshooter!! Where else can one get such FREE humor!! Oh, by the way.... the infamous Bradford County sharpshooter is actually my best friend. he has a wall full of trophies from a few states as well as Camp Perry Ohio national events. Shooting for Pa team at National events. Out of close to 400 shooters in Pa at a state competition , I finished 2nd..... to him. The thousands of rounds we have shot together, he has taught me a lot, but I totally concede the fact that he is the best.......by far..... been that way since we were teenagers.......

I actually suck at shooting compared to him. I truly wish we all could do what he can, and he does it with ease.....no matter the weapon. Some are naturals. He is the prime example of someone on a internet page saying "you can't do that "...... He currently builds custom guns as a hobby and teaches long range (1,00yd) shooting . As I said, he has taught me a lot, but no doubt he is the best.

I witnessed the guy buzz speaks of shoot a gray squirrel with a rifle at 425 yards. To this day that amazes me.

Pure sheet luck shot. Sorry, it is Actually Dutch, we hunt wood lots and brush lots surrounded by open fields in farm country. Every drive we do requires at least some watchers in the open fields, no way around that. Everyone who hunts with us has shot deer running in the open fields. It is the way we all grew up hunting, and is the "normal" for us. On the last day this year we did the drive again that I got that buck on, 7 of the 10 watchers were watching open fields. Do we all have some misses, yep. Have we had some wounded deer we had to chase down, yep.... but the same can be said for the shots taken in the woods. Certainly easier to shoot one standing/walking in the woods and we always put the kids there. Some people can sit in a blind or a tree stand all day, I truly wish I had the patience to do that, but I don't. Point is, that is normal hunting to some, and a 80 yard shot is a long shot for them. Some prefer to still hunt . No rights or wrongs, it's all good as long as they are out hunting.

Good post Buzz. Some people only from their own stands and eyes. There are many different styles of hunting. Different strokes for different folks

They just build supermen In Bradford!! They close their eyes& create jobs….drill a hole and buy millions of dollars in toys, wave their arms & millions of new trucks & train cars appear.
Of course all they take are shots on running deer & they gut them before they hit the ground. Yeah….true stuff.

As one of the guys I know that hunts deer almost solely on drives with lots of shooters and drivers says, "Gotta put some lead in the air if you got tags to fill." I'm not sure how the know who's bullet killed which deer. And I know they have many wounded deer get away-"We can't spend all day lookin' for a doe."
When a deer is hit in the shoulder neck area; "Made a nice shot on that one." even if there's a hole or two elsewhere.

Good post Buzz. Some people only from their own stands and eyes. There are many different styles of hunting. Different strokes for different folks Shooting at running deer at 200 yards....yep....won't disagree with that...."many different styles of hunting". All I'll say is that some hunters sure have drastically different hunting ethics/respect for our resource than myself.

That's nothing. I know a guy who told he made a 700 yard running shot on a deer. He showed me the field and it didn't look but 300 yards across to me. So try a 700 yard shot in a 300 yard field once. I bet that Bradford county sniper can't even pull that off! 😂

99% of deer hunters have no business shooting at a running deer at any range. Unfortunately, many of that 99% think they do. Makes me cringe.

Not to bash the weapon in any way but semi-autos would be the perfect rifle for such hunting.

All I'll say is that some hunters sure have drastically different hunting ethics/respect for our resource than myself. I will say a 200 yard shot running isn’t the normal but it does happen and have seen the shot made several times. Most of us would prefer a standing shot at distances of 200 plus yards. And I have to ask loggy is it unethical to shoot a standing deer at that distance?

With a decent rest many, if not most, hunters would have no problem killing a stationary deer at 200 yards.

We all thought it was a woodchuck. True story I should also add that the yardage wasn’t a guess. The guy ranged the yardage before the shot. People that shoot well at that distance don’t guess

There are many hunters that have no business shooting at a running deer and there are many hunters that have no business shooting a bow at any deer. Correctly placed a broad head is absolutely deadly but Many deer die a slow death every year from arrow wounds as well as bullets.

There are many hunters that have no business shooting at a running deer and there are many hunters that have no business shooting a bow at any deer. Agree. Way too many hunters out there that take poor percentage shots. We have all done it. With experience and wisdom, many grow out of that stage of shooting first and figuring it out later, but unfortunately, some do not and we see examples of that all of the time.

99% of deer hunters have no business shooting at a running deer at any range. Unfortunately, many of that 99% think they do. Makes me cringe. Several years ago, a buddy took me to the Adams County running deer shoot. I did not do well at all on the moving target, but won money on the stationary sheep target, where offhand shots were taken at 200 yards. This confirmed in my mind why I always pass on shots on running deer.
