That's a nice 7 point, Loggy. We just came in. The rain slowed long enough for me to think I wouldn't get too wet. That didn't last long and everything is pretty wet now. Saw nothing and pushed nothing out to my wife. Heard one shot. We may have been two of the few foolish enough to brave the high winds and the rain. A shower and some chilli then maybe napping through a college football game sounds like a better plan than just about anything else for the rest of the day.

The rain is here in glorious downtown Ansonia. Waiting for it to stop so we can put carcasses out and other clean up maintenance where we hunt

The CWD "thing" is troublesome to me. The last 3 kills I did I had tested. The first time I had to pay for it ($200) through the Dept. of Ag., but I considered it "cheap insurance". That first time the DMA was only a few miles from where I hunt.
Two years ago my spot was now included in the DMA, so testing became free. (Yippie?)
Now, I donated most of my buck kill to "HSH" and I cut the rack off, then dropped the head in the PGC testing bin. That bin is at their Bolivar HQ. They are suppose to have plastic bags, a tag to fill out, and zip ties to attach the tag.
Let's see....PGC guys going in and out of the office.....no plastic bags at the dumpster,.....only 3 remaining "cards" in the tray.....and lucky for me I got the last zip tie.
Now, I ask the processor if they keep the meat separate or segregated for the results of the CWD testing in case one comes back positive. She looked at me like I was speaking Latin. So....I think that's a NO.
I really enjoy deer hunting, but this year I questioned why I put "pressure" on myself to do something I enjoy. I may just "switch up" and do some coyote hunting and trapping next year.....but I'll defer that until next year.
CWD is the reason I didn't buy a new crossbow this year. I just am not sure how this will pan out in the future.

No bucks for our crew this past Saturday. I decided to sit in camp in the morning because of the rain as I wasn't planning on shooting anything and I watched two 8 points in the yard at 50 yards while the hunters we all in the woods.

One of our hunters is new to the sport. A young lady who started hunting just three years ago. She has not got a deer yet. She asked me where would I sit and I said the porch as I have seen one of those 8 points three time now around 8am over the past week. Sure enough he stepped out with a buddy at 7:50.

Had a pretty sad day Friday evening. The farmer up the road called and told us he would be down to tell us something. He found a dead buck that day. There was a big 9 point that the farmer and myself have all over our cameras this fall. A couple guys were holding out hoping to get a crack at him.
Opening day right at dark, a neighbor kid took a shot at a 9 point. Apparently they found some blood but elected to wait till morning to look for it. It rained hard that night. They never found it and said it was a small 9 point so hope remained high that the big 9 point lived. Well, the farmer was doing a small push and caught the glint of antler on the ground. He worked his way up to it and it was the big 9. Dead and already worked over by the coyotes. He found it exactly 110 yards from the neighbor's house that took that shot.
Rotting in the woods, 110 yards from where the shot was taken. He was pissed to say the least as were we. I understand that sometimes people cannot find deer they shot but this was wide open woods and would have been easy to find it if they grid searched at all.
Really a shame.

I sure hope she gets one soon Me too. She doesn't seem interested in shooting a doe. She did pass up a half rack her first year. Four on one side.

We had steady rain and gail force winds most of the day.Jordan didn't go out so I went alone.Deer weren't moving and the constantly changing wind made still hunting impossible.I did get within range of three and when I pulled up to shoot,Mt 20 year old Leupold was fogged up internally.

Worst thing I went and did was bought a Camp in Sullivan. Last year we were doing some of our hunting in Elk County and we were seeing deer. We had hope. And we went there to escape the hunting in Sullivan so what do I do but go and buy a Camp there. SMH DOESN'T YOUR CAMP HAVE WHEELS?Pull it up to Elk county for a week. There's plenty of camp grounds.DCNR has some primitive sites in Bennezette and off of Reactor rd,near the bootcamp.I've camped there with horses and doubt it would be an issue to pull a camper in there.I have a campground lot in Treasure lake that you could use.I've never used it once and I'm not sure I could even find it but it's free for anyone who wants to.We have plenty of deer around here. They have every advantage and you can't always see them but they're here.

Thanks for the generous offer. My wife's sister is half owner and we have an agreement the Camper will stay in place. She can't take it anywhere and neither can I.

Just got the official score from BC scorer. 158-6 gross 144 net View AttachmentI know it's official, but that deer grew 158, and that's what he should be credited with. The deductions are what we humans think it should be. Nice Buzz, the blind squirrel finally found a nut. 🙂

So it is 158-6 to me as well.
