The members did pretty good deer hunting out at my Hunt club yesterday. 4 bucks taken and 2 doe. One 18" 9 point, 1 smaller 9 and 2 8 points. I took a nice doe as did my buddy. It was a good day.

I saw a four point last evening feeding behind me.
My daughter, the first day, saw a buck, but no shot.
When she left her spot, I stayed. Within minutes two does and a spiker walk past! I'll never get her a deer.
The shooting pretty much stopped by 9;00 the first day. Not much since.
According to Facebook posts, two processors in Potter have stopped taking deer. Concurrent season just brings in too many all at once.

Hunted Sullivan County Saturday, Sunday & Monday. Saturday saw a huge buck early morning light moving slow in heavy cover. Antlers were very white & way above ears but could't get a clearing to glass him. My safe was immediately off. Finally could glass him & it was a huge bodied buck with what appeared 1.5 foot spikes!! Unbelievable height!! They had slight forward curvature but no browse or sticker points. Over 3 days hunting I saw 3 scrubby racked 4's and two 3 pointers plus another spikie with about 5" spikes. No problem seeing plenty of doe each day out but no legal bucks out of the 7 sighted plus all bucks seen were carrying racks about the size of a cantalope...very poor. Got out early Sunday before heavy rain set-in and shot a doe(pic below). Just dropped off at local farmer/butcher & having sausage & bologna made plus having loins butterfied and a few small neck roasts cut which my Mom lives for each year. All in all had a great hunt but was disappoined in the quality of bucks being seen. Two guys hunting with me out of camp behind me...same thing were seeing a lot of scrub racks in another area of Loyalsock forest several miles from where I was hunting. Seems AR's taking a while to take hold in at least the areas I'm hunting. Saw a couple bucks hanging at camps but none were such I would mount. My buddies both killed doe and left camp this morning.

Saw a couple of deer on Saturday morning; both does. About a quarter of four in the afternoon the neighbors decided to drive a clear cut bordering the North edge of my property. I was positioned to watch a couple of hollows as the drive began. They didn't have many participants and it hurt their drive. I heard a few deer running out of the drive up on the ridge. Then, a single deer ran off the neighboring finger ridge. I was two hundred yards away and could see the antlers through the trees. That deer ran into the middle of my property where a friend was zig zagging his way through in an attempt to move deer. He eventually worked his way up through some pines and kicked the buck, along with two does, over to my son's father-in-law. He passed on the does when he saw the buck coming through the woods. He connected on the 14" eight point and he piled up about a hundred yards in the next hollow.
Other than seeing 20 to 30 flipping turkeys everyday, that's all we got. Shooting on Sunday and Monday was sporadic at best with the heaviest shooting on Saturday morn.

In the past I have reported how my grandsons have done but this post is about Buzz. After 35 plus years of mentoring him he has finally understood that you have to shot to kill a buck and yesterday he did just that and put his tag on a really fine buck. Green gross score is over 150 inches. I love the mentor program and cherish all the years Iโve spent molding him into the hunter he is today ๐

You need to give Buzz more credit.I'm sure it wasn't easy making the shot after knocking a kid to the ground and shooting while standing on his chest.

Came back from camp. Not a bad opening weekend. We had 4 guns and me the dog. One nice 8 point down. The other three all passed legal bucks. Everyone could have taken a doe.
I watched the nice 8 point heading to one of our guns at 10:30 Saturday but I knew the wind was bad and the buck would catch his scent. The buck caught his scent and angled away from the gun not providing a clear shot. At last light the same buck returned to retrace his steps back towards where he came from in the morning but made the mistake of taking another trail that brought him into some clearer timber and the gun was able to lay him out at 150 yards.
Decent shooting at first light but pretty much dead after that. Very little shooting Sun, Mon, Tues.

Far to much rain this am, and it's going to be very windy the rest of the day. Any remaining bucks will likely be cruzing...but mebby more towards or after 3:00. I know that in the rut it doesn't matter the time....bucks are always on the move.
I'll make a go of it tomorrow!!

We went to visit DennyF at his camp today. It was great seeing him again. My brother hadn't seen a deer in four days of hunting, but we saw 30 deer in various fields in Denny's area.
Denny seems his old self, but has some blood pressure issues.
We have permission on a farm a mile down the road from Denny, might try there tomorrow for a doe

Sounds like no shortage of deer in Denny's neck of the woods!! Best of luck tomorrow!
Doubt if I'll get out again until flintlock. I'm happy with a doe which provides some yummy venison for my mom plus some for our family. The Mrs not being a venison fan tells me to get more flounder & crab but got a couple months till that happens!! lol
