We drove and drove miles of SGL 44 out on saturday. No bear,a few deer and at least 50 Amish.I've never seen so many Amish in my life.A couple guys chatted with them and they just said they came from 2 hours away. How the hell do they find these places?

Just got back from my bear hunting adventure. Had a great time and love being in the big woods. Heard around 15 shots in the 2 days I hunted. Apparently I pushed a bear to a guy on stand in the laurel. I met him on Sunday morning and got a pic of the bear. 125lb female with a white patch. Found some scat as well. This was only my 2nd season doing it and am looking forward to next season already. It's definitely a young man's game, those hills are huge! Hunted on Clinton, Lycoming line. Saw a big fisher as well.

Got back from camp around 3pm today. We had a good crew this year, think around 16 on Saturday, and 14 on Sunday, only 5 for today. Couple of new Guys, 2 from Ohio, and a old friend who brought along 2 others. We lost one new guy on the second drive yesterday, took 3 hours before he showed up, found by a couple of other hunters that returned him to us. It was getting late in the day by then and most of the young guys were worn out looking for him so yesterday got cut short, but all ended well. Those of us that were left for today were either to tired to, or to old to, so we broke camp and called it a season. We didn't see any bears, but did see a couple of deer, along with one good buck, and enough deer signs to make a trip next week back to camp for few days. All and all , a fun time.

All in all, with my rifle crew of guys, just being on top of the dirt and being able to get together is what we look for. killing deer is just an added hassle bonus ?
We lost one member last year at 73. RIP Jim.

A fella I was hunting near shot at a bear and sent him flying by me during the early MZLoader season, all I seen was a black blur for about 3 seconds and he was gone. I doubt I'm going back there, that bear is probably in another state by now. And by the way the fella said he shot at the bear he missed, I went over and helped him look around didn't see any blood or hair and tracked the bear as far as we could. Probably head way up N. Wayne County seen some good sign up there in several spots.

Also heading to Sullivan tomorrow. Will hunt Saturday and Sunday probably in Forksville Good luck Mike!! I talked to another camp who hunts Camp Mountain(SGL 134) from big lot near game fields. They said the normally gated road is now open out past the fields going down over mountain past Huckle Run in addition to one that goes toward Proctor which is normally open. I haven't been there to check but that's what they told me last week while up turkey hunting. If true....opens up some good hunting area that normally required quite a hike in on foot.

Yes. I can verify that gate was open in archery a few weeks ago That's the area my Dad killed his 383 lb bear,,,,,back behind the game fields. Was before the PGC put the access road/lot on top & you had to hike in from Hillsgrove side. One hell of a hike plus drag!! Back then the Hillsgrove DCNR Forestor Don Barber & area Game Warden Levi Whippo plus 2 deputies when back in with jeep & chainsaws to help Dad get bear out. I was only 12 then & not along on trip. Heard Dad's story so many times...seems like yesterday!! lol

My Great Uncle started hunting Hillsgrove in 1946. He always hunted Camp Mountain. They'd raft across the Loyalsock and climb the mountain. He claimed when they put the road in they ruined the hunting on Camp

Agree...the access roads sure changed things and not for the good imo. Maybe with fewer hunters they be more of a plus down the road. I think Hickory Grove Camp along rt 87 & some other camps south past the old Girl Scout Camp still boat across the Loyalsock to gain access to some harder to reach lower ridge areas.

I can't remember the name of the Camp my Great Uncle went to. It's along 87 down towards the Girl Scout camps. We always knew it as Daiblers Camp and maybe that's what it was. Anyway back in the 80's while rafting across the Sock to Camp Mountain one of the guys dropped his 30-06 overboard into the Sock. He managed to talk his brother in law into stripping down and submerging into the December frigid Loyalsock to retrieve it. 😂

I used to hunt WVA Deer in Sleepy Creek WMU area with some friends and we'd cross a lake in a jon boat in the dark to access a hard to get to area.. One year we had to break ice to cross. We brought quite a few bucks across the lake. I'm No longer that adventureous...ie crazy!!

Rumor is Bushy is still wandering around a patch of mountain laurel and may never come out................. He has been found I saw that. Glad he made it out of there. I got turned around bad once in my life and it was not a good feeling especially with darkness settling in.
