BTW and FWIW.....the rack spread on this guy (above) is about the same as the 9PT I got from this place last year. In 2018 I took a very nice 10PT that I had mounted. 2019 the 9PT, and this year the above 7PT. (Had he not broken his one point off, he would have been a 8PT. It seems I'm "slipping backwards" on rack size!! That could cause a cut in my funding from the Outdoor Channel!!!

Nothing at all wrong with tagging that buck dave. Just think how big the one you were after this year will be next season if he makes it.

My wife and I just came back into the yard from pulling a couple climbers I had out and will put away 'till next fall. While we were standing by the side of the house we heard leaves crunching at the edge of our back yard are saw a doe trotting across our spring road with a pretty nice buck a few yards behind with his neck stretched out in pursuit.

Congrats Dave on the buck!
As for me, I will hit it hard Monday through Wednesday then back to work. My standards are about as low as they can get at this point. If I am lucky enough to have a legal buck in range, I will probably take the shot.

My wife has Vets day off Wed and she is thinking about taking a vacation day Tuesday or Thursday. My vote is for Tuesday.

Another all day sit today. A scraggly 3 point at noon and a 6 point at dusk. Very slow again.

Hang in there. This is the time of year things can turn around in the blink of an eye. I spent more hours hunting in the '18 and '19 archery seasons than any in my life and while I got a few does does, did not kill a buck. I still consider the '18 season one of the most enjoyable I've ever had.
Gotta give you credit for sitting all day. I have never been able to do that. I have to get up and move. even taking a book along does keep me in one place.

Another almost an all day sit. Came out between 12 and 2. One half rack in the morning and 4 does in the afternoon. Another slow day with zero rut action for me.

Tomorrow's the day Ridge! I hope to squeeze in an afternoon hunt if this front clears. It is supposed to thunderstorm all morning here. I am going to get up and check the radar. Maybe I will get an hour or two before it hits.

Decided to hit the stand this morning for the last day here in the SRAs. Cold 16 degrees and a stiff breeze. I could have sealed the deal on a big doe at 15 yards at 9. She had a little one with her and I just couldn't shoot her. With 3 in the freezer I guess I felt like I didn't need to kill another that bad. Froze my butt off but it was a good way to end the season passing one up.
My intention was if I got one to donate it to Hunters Sharing the Harvest but so much for that plan. I guess now I wait till September 2021 to start it all over.

I posted this on another forum a couple of days after I shot it. 10/17/2020 - I hunted a stand until about 9:00am and saw nothing. Not surprising, the Solunar Table said minor game movement was ending around 7:30am. At 9:00am I decided to move 200 yards across the hill to a different stand. I settled in, Solunar Tables said major game movement should be 11:30am to close to 3:00pm. Around 10:00 the wind changed direction and I had a spike wind me as he stood in the exact same spot I shot the deer in the picture. 20 minutes later the wind changed again, died down a bit, and all was normal. Around 11:00am I saw a tree shaking about 50 yards away and I knew it had to be a buck rubbing it. A short time later the deer started moving towards me and it cut the escape track of the spike and got real squirrely. He stood 40 yards away his head was bobbing & turning for several minutes. After he settled down he went to feeding. As I watched he turned and was heading up over the hill, away from me. For a awhile all I could see were the tops of his antlers as he was feeding on the hilltop. After what seemed like forever, he started back towards me on a line that would bring him within longbow range. He stopped, turned and was walking left to right, then turned slightly giving me a good, slightly uphill, quartering away shot at 20 or so yards. I drew, anchored, released, heard the thud of the hit, and the deer just dropped like a bag of cement. He kicked for about 2 seconds and stopped. I could see foamy blood pouring out where the arrow was. I looked at my watch, it was 12:00 noon exactly. I sat there for 30 minutes just to be sure he was dead before I got down to check him out. I pulled my arrow, no broadhead. I carefully dressed him out, not wanting to get my hands sliced by the the broadhead. I got all the entrails out, and cut away the diaphragm, but before I went after the lungs & heart I took a look inside the cavity. The broadhead was buried in the spine. The arrow entered through the last two ribs, taking out the liver & lungs, and embedded in the spine. Attachment Deleted
