Not just a "like" on that bird hunt post....That one made me smile. Continue to enjoy every minute of it sir. It makes me smile every day. That dog may very well have been the best money I've ever spent.I can't really quantify how good of a hunter she is.I do know that we kill birds over her every time. She holds a decent point most of the time but still busts some birds on most hunts. She's not steady to shot but I really don't want her to be and she doesn't have a soft mouth. We don't have to wring many necks when she brings them back. She finds them so we can shoot them and she's relentless when they hit the ground. What she does have is 100% pure enthusiasm and I've yet to have her out when she didn't make us laugh about something.Other than that, she's the best companion you can ever get for kid my son's age.I will never not have a GSP laying next to me on the couch every night.

Another all day sit 18 feet up in a steady gale. Brrrrr... For my efforts I saw 5 bucks between 9 and 11. One was a shooter. Problem was all of them were on a trail that went right past another one of my stands. I watched them all walk within 25 yards of it. After 11, nothing the rest of the day. I guess I will sit that other stand tomorrow morning....

No buck yet. I didn't see that big boy last evening. Saw 8 doe. I setup in a "new" spot. With the wind at a constant 20mph, I was in a small wood patch that "spooned" down with a rock formation in front of me that was a great blind. Had a real nice fat doe at 25 yards......but I'm hunting for a buck right now!! A great outing none the less!

I'm blocked from the site. Please post pic here, Arnie. So I can either congratulate you, or say should have given it another year.

He would have been a nice one if given another year but was too pretty for me to give him a pass and he probably would have been killed by somebody else anyway. He was probably only 2 1/2 he only weighed 135 dressed. There was almost zero fat anywhere on him, Attachment Deleted

Here's the guy I'm after. I've seen him twice....way outta range.....but this is the first pic I've gotten of him. He seems to "favor" my hunting area in the evening. These pics were actually taken 11-4 at 5:00 PM. (When I was helping the Mrs babysit our two granddaughters) This is my 12YO Molturie camera. The digital screen has gotten so bad that I can't tell what information it's asking me for. So, to figure out the date\time I get the time\date stamp from me approaching it....and do the math from there. And then there's BUTT.....BUTT.....BUTT.....

Did an all day sit. Saw two shooters the first hour. Had one at 40 yards and waited thinking he would keep coming, but he stopped and angled farther away. The rest of the day was slow. 3 does at dark.

Are you seeing any chasing going on Ridge? Friday and Saturday I saw a few chasing does and then, on Monday morning I saw a small buck chasing and three other small bucks trotting around with their nose down before the one I shot chased a doe if front of me at just after 7:00 and there was a smaller buck with them.
My wife has seen a couple small bucks out looking and my brother reports pretty much the same. I thought maybe the big ones were on lock down with does much of the time.

Are you seeing any chasing going on Ridge? Only buck I saw pushing a doe was Monday morning. He wasn't chasing, just following her. All of the other bucks have been just slowly cruising. Not the fast paced rut walk, but slowly moving along. I think it is still too early for that. While a few does may be in heat, we are still 5-6 days away from any real lock down when most of the does cycle in between the 13th and 16th. The warm weather and recent full moon has things a bit slow.

I thought the same thing. But with amount of chasing I saw last week and what seems to be a sudden change in the big boys, while the little bucks are still looking, maybe some are getting lucky.
In my experience in past years Halloween to around vet's day is the hottest action for seeing bucks.

My wife texted me and said that a couple deer trotted into a thick patch of thorns just as it was getting light and bedded down. She said one looks like a legal buck. She is pinned down hoping they get up and move her way. She is really loving this archery stuff.
Good luck to the guys out there in their trees this morning.

Another long day. Saw a pretty good buck this morning that skirted me. One lonesome fawn and a coyote that I couldn't get a shot at. Looking forward to a recharge tomorrow than hitting it hard again mon-wed then back to work.

Welp.....my buck season is over. At 5:15 as the sun was fading, a doe came running out of the woods. She stopped for a minuet and was panting like crazy. So...I knew a buck was coming soon. And he did. It the dusk when he turned towards me I thought he was "the big guy". A nice spread. But after I shot him.....he was not the big 9 point. I'll post tomorrow when I'm not pooped!!
