3205 harvested to-date. I don't think that early seasons will have much of an impact on harvest totals for the year. Currently harvest is same as last year which had crappy weather. The doomsday whiners will be proved wrong again. Kudo's to the PGC for change. JM

The next move will be eliminate bear season and start a concurrent bear/deer season the weekend before Thanksgiving

The next move will be eliminate bear season and start a concurrent bear/deer season the weekend before Thanksgiving There is some merit to that. But I would worry that people would focus on deer, which are not necessarily the best areas for bear, and bear would be underharvested in the areas where bear harvest is needed the most.

Wrong. A lot claim they made a one day bear season by starting it on Saturday. So they keep advertising record harvest but never get it with more bears why?

Let me see if my Stroupyese is good.
The PGC made the rifle bear a Saturday which concentrates most of the pressure on one day, so pressure has been reduced on other days which has lead to the PGC having a difficult time achieving the higher harvest they desire. How did I do?

Wasn't too difficult to figure out for those who wanted too.

Wasn't too difficult to figure out for those who wanted too. Agree 100%, the Saturday opener for bear made a one day season, for the most part. Didn't see any other hunter outside our crew, except for in a few in vehicles yesterday. Heard no shooting, and this was in Beechcreek and Noyes township of Clinton county. It took us combining 4 camps to get a full crew for Monday, before the Saturday start, most camps still had a full crew for the second day. It will do the same for the second day totals for rife this year also. The PGC wanted and were sure they would have a new record harvest this year. They should have too, with the all the extra time allotted, but my guest is they will be lucky to come any where near 4000 total. The season wasn't broken with a Monday start, so why try and fix it with a Saturday start?

There is also the concurrent season coming up, it might make 4000 or better

And then, for some reason, the PGC doesn't allow a concurrent season in 2G, 2F, or 2H. Core bear areas where bears migrate FROM.
You don't solve the problem until you reduce populations there, IMO

Doesn't matter how many bears were killed in the extended archery and muzzy seasons. Anyone that killed an "early" bear, ain't gonna kill another one once regular bear season started. One license/one bear. Some that were lucky in the early go, probably weren't around to participate in regular season. But then, how many that went out in archery, were also "gun season" regulars?
Did bear license sales increase due to the early seasons? Buddy that always hunted with a gang in Potter, hated the Saturday opener. But then he has a three hour drive to camp and most of the others he hunted with, were locals. Saturday probably didn't matter much to them, they're already there.

Isn't part of the reason for the early season is to kill some more sows?

What on Earth are you trying to say? Stroup, you crack me up. Again, tell me what's "WRONG" about "MY" post? Did I say anything about "records"? NO...learn to read please.
And as far as your statement about Saturday took away from the other days, well one could say that Monday will take away from the other days also. Let's face it, if no records are broken it can only be for two reasons" (1) nobody hunts anymore (2) bear population is not as large as thought. JM

I was simply giving you a different perspective. The bear population is up as I have seen 6 different ones this season already.

Good Lord I have no desire to kill a bear. We have to cut ATV trails on my place, just so all of us lazy old bastages can drag a deer to a nearest trail to load up on an ATV trailer.
Oh and... I'm next to the youngest at 55 (my lad is 13).
