Just for Doug and 1stlight. The new Ravin. 26 inches long, 5 inches wide, and shoots 400fps. This thing is crazy small. These are some spy photos. It debuts at the ATA show Thursday. Attachment Deleted

Interesting crossbow. For me, because of the permanent weakness of my left arm, I prefer the more "centered balance" of the reverse limb crossbow. That's why my old Horton works so well for me. With my Horton, I can actually hold it and shoot it with my right arm only. Not that I would ever do that with the target being live game....but I mention that to show how easy it is to balance.
FWIW

Looks loud, cumbersome and harder to use than a compound.

Loud? Maybe. Cumbersome and harder, not so much. In fact I have never said crossbows are harder to use than a compound when everything is equal. What I have always said is that crossbows have distinct advantages when everything is equal. There are some disadvantages to them, but they are offset more by the advantages. That is why their success rates are generally a bit higher than compounds. I know, it pains you when I am truthful about crossbows.

You've gotten better about since it's become obvious that you have no other rebuttal. That wasn't always the case.I have no issues with crossbows simply because I see a need at this point to kill more deer.Give a guy a compact, scoped crossbow shooting in excess of 400 fps and you have a deer killing sob in October that isn't even close to the most tricked out compound.I killed a deer with a crossbow and watched my kid kill several that I wouldn't have attempted with a compound. If I couldn't use a compound,I'd use a crossbow.I have no problem with them Gene, not one tiny bit but it's not archery and you aren't bowhunting if you use one. There's no shame in that either. It's just the way it is.They're two entirely different entities, not unlike Bill Bixby and the incredible hulk.

A crossbow has diminished my enthusiasm for bowhunting. Cumbersome piece of crap. Heavy. PITA to carry. Awkward in a treestand.
Hate the damn things

I have always said the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and data backs that up. And that is from the day I began using one and supported crossbow inclusion. I did debunk a lot of mistruths, stereotypes, and assumptions being made about crossbows, and still do. Even yours. Maybe you interpreted that as somehow I did not not recognize the fact that they are easier to hunt with when everything else is equal. I have been clear from day one, there are a better mousetrap most times when it comes to the ultimate goal, which is to kill game. Now, some others have said that there are no advantages to them and that they are not easier. I disagree with them.

Hate the damn things Some of the newer ones are much different, but you have to spend some hefty coin to get one. They remain heavy, though, compared to compounds. I don't like the weight for sure on my walks in, especially with a loaded pack and/or stand with me.

They also introduced the R29. 420fps and only 29 inches long. They are killing it within the high end market.

I carried one for my son for several years and sat with him in a stand.I never found it heavy or cumbersome. In fact,I never notices a single disadvantage to it.Throw a sling on it and it's not much different than a rifle.

Carry one by the sling, it's top heavy and wants to fall off. I always liked to situate myself on the backside of a tree, and shoot behind me. Not possible with a wide crossbow. Still hunt thru thicker stuff, forget it.
Just hate them

I don't know,I found it easy to carry with a sling.I set most of my stands so that the deer pass along my left side or in front of me,depending on the wind and sun.

My quiver is attached to the crossbow. Never fails when walking to my stand I lose one or two bolts as they sometimes get snagged up on brush/limbs. At $20 - $23 per bolt, yes, I retrace my steps to find 'em. Sometimes they're found and sometimes not.
I hate when that happens. 😎
Prolly a good reason to go back to the traditional compound.🤔

Hate the damn things Pretty much agree with you Dutch...but I got'a say, a crossbow gets me out there hunting with the boy in October and early November. About the only two redeeming attributes of the crossbow as I see it is they're accurate and easy to shoot. Other than that they're extremely awkward, a pain to carry, "loud" (in terms of handling them), a constant effort for safety (no fingers/hands within the drawn string) and as you stated, you got to have clearance for the limbs...no shoot'n around trees etc. Muab (who will continue to use one for now)

I've always stated that it's much easier to hunt with a compound bow than it is a crossbow. I've done both. If I could hold the compound steady on an animal I'd go back to it.
I seem to get into "differences of opinion" when I make that statement. But.....that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!!

I've hunted with both, killed deer with both and I couldn't disagree more.If I were going out with the strict mindset to fill a tag,I'd take a crossbow every time. The only reason I use a compound is because it's fun to play around with year round.I don't find a crossbow fun to shoot at all.
