Are bears way more abundant than ever or is it just we post more pictures because so many people have cameras with them ?

They're more abundant than at any time in my life. And I know the old timers didn't see bear like I've seen them. I've seen well over 100. Just saw three more a couple weeks ago.

In the 70's, they closed bear season because they didn't know how many there were and harvests were pretty low, 3-500 per year.
Now we kill over 3000 every year.

Either somebody didnt know how to count back then, or Gary Ault taught them how to reproduce better.

I had my first meal out of the bear I took a few weeks ago in Ontario. I had a feeling it would be very tasty based upon how it looked and smelled when I was cutting it up. Made some Texas style chili which is cubed meat instead of ground. Honestly, it was way better than deer and my family felt like it tasted every bit as good as beef.

I agree with dutch, there are more bears now for the close of seasons back then. What time to be alive

A bear walked down the little stream that runs 40 yards from our house yesterday at 2 in the afternoon. It got out of the water came over next to the house then walked across the road and back in to the stream. It was within a few yards of my sons and one of my friends as they stood talking on the porch. I suppose it was using the stream bed to try to stay cool while looking for a lady friend.
I usually see at least one(sometimes a few) every archery season. If I have a buck tag left when archery bear comes in I may buy the tag. I really have no desire to kill one. I wouldn't eat the meat and having a rug made is expensive. I would like having a skull though.

I'm sure there nothing wrong with most bear meat. I know lots of guys who like it.
The thought of eating the meat from a bear turned for me when I was in high school. A place I often hunted was about a mile or so for a big open garbage dump. There were lots of bear in the area and it seemed every pile of bear scat had the plastic from pampers diapers in it. I would think of that image with every bite.
I have eaten muskrat, trapped beaver, groundhog, and about every game animal I can think of. About the only critters off the list for me are: 'possum, 'coon, anything from the mustelid family, woodcock(tried it and hated it), and bear.

My brother has a couple buddies who love bear hunting and he gets some from them pretty often and says the same thing, ridge.

If you prepare & cook venison wrong, it tastes bad. If you cook it right, it's a very good tasting meat. Better than beef. I can only assume the same could be said for bear.

Years ago, I was in a pool league. One nite after shootin we went to a bar. Just so happened the bar owner was a big game hunter. Synders bar in Ligonier. That day he just got back from a polar bear hunt. He was fryin some up in the kitchen and givin samples to everyone at the bar. It tasted fishy to me, and I didnt care for it.

What'd suppose the bears that feed on pampers would taste like?

I like deer meat and know how to cook it. However to me it is a major stretch to say it is better than beef. A nice cut beaf steak done medium rare on a grill is really hard to beat.

Bear meat is much better than deer That depends imo. A deer steak is better then a bears but a bear roast is better then a deers.
