This week I'm finally getting a new roof on my Sullivan County Camp. Went with a Ideal Roofing AmeriCana 29 ga metal roof. Should be good to help prevent snow build-up. Existing shingle are almost 30 years old so was about time.

We didn't ground ours. Not sure if you were supposed to or not. LOL. Only downside to the metal roof is it is tougher to stand on if you need to go up on it. My pole building at home has a 4/12 pitch roof with metal that I built probably 15 years ago. It isn't bad to stand on. Our camp roof is the same pitch but it is very slick. Bought both from Carter Lumber. Not sure maybe now the roof and finish is smoother now than it used to be or not.

Thanks CS.
Most all the camps & homes around my camp are going to metal. My camp isn't worth all that much but looking to preserve whut's there for the remainder of my hunting years. Thinkin it will also add some value if ever sold. I'll put a pic up when done after I get up to inspect.

I've been told a metal roof interferes with internet and cellphone signals. Supposedly they are workin on the problem.

I heard that too TK. No internet at camp but now isin my cell. May have to walk outside to get reception if metal roof distorts.

I've been told a metal roof interferes with internet and cellphone signals. Supposedly they are workin on the problem. That can be a good thing. LOL. At our camp cell phone service is spotty anyway. I have thought about getting a booster for in the cabin. It would be nice in case of an emergency.

Shingles on the original part of camp have been there since 1980 and still holding up. Since they were all freebies back then, from my boss's "left overs" shingle pile behind the shop, lord knows how old they really are?
Maybe this fall or next, I hope to cover the entire shingled roof with green metal, as the "new" part dates to 1984 and is actually in worse shape the older part. When the shingles are dry, it'll get stripped with 1x4s and covered with metal. No cell reception there to speak of, so no issue with that.

I would think the metal roof will interfere with reception. When I worked, I had a client in the retail and repair business of cell phones. The one Son who did repairs had built a "special" little box in the warehouse for repairing cell phones. It was made from 2x4's and then he tacked chicken wire fencing and another layer of "close hole" wiring fencing all the way around it.....and the "roof" as well. He stated that for certain test he performed, he didn't want any outside cell tower interference.

I know many of the newer build MD offices have metal roofs. Could be why cell reception always seems weaker while in their waiting rooms?

Most times, inside a building, reception decreases. My daughter used to swim in a metal building. Verizon towers was a few hundred yds away, barely had a signal. E glass in the new windows messes with it as well. We have an ATT affiliate tower at the end of our camps driveway, I have verizon. Where I hunt, Verizon tower 1/2 mile away, better reception than at home. drop down over the ravine about 75 yds, and you lose it.

I will see how reception changes. May consider getting a booster.

Hey Loggy.......you just may be around to replace that roof!! A guy I know had his Mom move to a care facility when she was 88. They figured out Mom would run outta money at around 100. His Mom told him....."Well, that's not gonna be a problem." She is now 104 and still going strong.

My Dad, Grandpap & Uncles built camp back in the late 50's. Lotta camp reorgs, deaths etc thru the years but bottomline deed was transferred to me in 1987 upon Dad's passing. Camp always had a tar paper roof which means that every so many years you carry 5 gal buckets of pitch up & recoat roof. PIA!! Well...guess whut ole Loggy decided to go to shingles in 1990 which were currently nearing end their useful life so now went with metal. I carried those 5 gal buckets of pitch up & brushed out in the heat only once since Dad died & that was the end of that sh!t!! I know...us lazy younger generation!! lol

Thanks Red. Today is a day(100 degree plus heat index) I wouldn't want to be toting those 5 gal pitch buckets up a ladder & spread on the camp roof!! Thank God for our lazy generation's way of thinkin!! lol

Lazy?? Sounds more like wise. The hunting camps that are more like summer homes are great, but there's a lot to be said for basic hunting cabin in the woods.
