Amen Red!! Just wonder whut Dad would think of me "modernizing" things a lil?? A good friend of mine has a camp near Smethport. His Dad had purchased it 1,000 years ago. Well, last fall he (not his Dad) renovated the place. Now it's great. More modern and much larger kitchen, now a 2 bedroom instead of a one "big camp" bedroom. New bathroom AND an additional powder room. His Dad, who is 89, came over after the renovation and said...."It's not a camp......it's a home." My buddy wasn't upset with his Dad. But my buddies grandkids all have allergies and only came up to the camp one time like 3 years ago. Post renovation they have been there 3 times and love the place!!

My dad's camp is his pride and joy. He has put his heart and soul into the place. Seven floods didn't break him. The last one, he raised the place almost 4 more feet, hasn't flooded since. Not enough room for people? He added two bedrooms. When he could no longer do the steps, he bought, and we installed a lift chair. The bathroom was updated the other year. Now, he wants siding on it so there will be less maintenance for future generations.
Camps evolve, with us....or can.

That's for sure Dutch camps do evolve. In my camps 60 life it went from no electricity(tar paper roof, gas lites, ole wood ice cabinet, Sears freestanding kero furnace) to electricity, modern metal roof, refrigerator and ventless gas heater!! Who knows....in the next 60 years may even get a TV, internet plus running water w/inside bathroom vs outhouse!! It may even get nice enuff(in due time) that the Mrs will want to come up a lot!! All good things take time though!!
