The Morels are up in SW PA. If you're in SW PA, this weekend should be prime. I found a few dozen, half greys, half smaller yellows, this past Sunday. Hope for cooler temps, which I believe we will have this week. Heat + Wind = BADDDDDDDDD.
It seems many folks have been getting caught the past few years, and missing "prime" time. They assume that the prime yellow picking is still May 5-10 or so. Trust me, I've been at this for decades, and while that may have held true some years ago, that "prime" window here in SW PA, has moved up to about April 22 or so, thru end of April.

Morels have been up for 10 days in western Washington County. I agree that prime Morel season is getting earlier and earlier around here. Kinda makes sense that our spring turkey season should too, lol.

YA, I'll bet they've been up for 10 days. I just don't bother using valuable time to peek around for a handful. Last year I found a small yellow on March 25th. I have a little micro-climate on my farm where they ALWAYS start first. With last years early heat, I knew I'd find a couple in March there. I found 3, and I only looked just to say I found a Morel in SW PA in March.

I would think they exist in every county in PA, though, some are more prolific for finding them.
Aren't you in Blair ? They're there.

In the midwest they seem to fill garbage bags with them. Not so much in this state

Hit a proven hole I've had for a dozen years or so last night. My guesstimate after spreading them on the paper, was around 80 ? Greys but mostly yellows. Most in the 3" range, but got 6 that were stuffer size. I was surprised to find yellows that large at this time, but that's where things are heading here. Earlier every year.

Went down to Petersburg, WV to fish the Smokehole for a couple days. Heading back down tomorrow for 3 days. Anyhow, man those rednecks sure get after the Morels down yonder. There were a boat-load of people fishing, but even more were Morel hunting. Had me about ready to trade in my pole and waders for a suitable gathering bag, and have at it. I actually watched a guy load his 6'ish year old into a little inflatable raft, paddle across the South Branch of the Potomac, drag the "dingy" into the woods, and proceed to head up what was basically a sheer cliff, going after Morels.

I get upset every year over this topic. Apparently they taste great and I never seem to find any and want to try one in the worst way!
