Most of the trees I have cut that were across trails were ash.

All the ash trees over a couple feet tall are dead on my property. My bother has cut at least a few years of firewood from many of them and there are at least as many that still need dropped.
Red oaks cross often with others in the red oak family.
The oak the guy wants to buy may look as though it will yield lumber with exceptionally fancy grain patterns. Does the bark look as if it spirals around the tree? Are there strange growths on the tree? What do the leaves look like?

No, I didn't stretch out my payments received. I rifled through it all, remember ? All I'm saying is that I was eligible (I'm fairly certain), to spread out the tax due over the term of a 5 year period. LMAO2 Yeah.....maybe. But I thought that had to do with the regular to Roth IRA rollover. You could do it "now" and pay the tax over .....maybe a 5 year period. Hey.....that was eleven years ago....and my brain is not what it use to be.

Sounds like the Amish IRA account.

No, nothing to do with an IRA rollover of any sort. Like I said, it didn't confront me at the time, as I had the full amount ear-marked for spending immediately. BUT, if I were to receive a large enough sum from timbering, and planned on hanging onto the money for the purpose of making additional money off of it by way of investing, I'd definitely look into it. THOUGH, in 2017, and the smallish amount that rates pay nowadays, is it really worth fretting over the relatively meager amount you gain ? I guess every little bit helps, but.....
