D--n deer farms. That whole industry should be shut down.Another case of money ruining a good thing. When the next major disease breaks out in a pig or chicken farm are you also proposing that the entire industries be shut down? Disease outbreaks happen all of the time with farmed animals. They have happened in the past and will happen in the future and there will be new diseases that appear with time. Some of theses diseases are threats to humans and native wildlife. Farming animals comes with its downsides. The answer is containment, strong enforcement, education, and robust regulation. When we begin to opt for shutting down a industry, the precedent has been set for other industries to be shut down with the next disease outbreak. When demand begins to outpace supply for farmed animal products, the pressure on wild stock increases.

A deer is not a steer, pig,or chicken.People who confine them in pens to make money with an always fatal disease present are going to destroy our wild herds. The frequent shipping of trophy bucks to shooting pens for trophy fees spreads the disease. If they can't do this they can't make money.

A deer is not a steer, pig,or chicken. Correct, but disease has been known to go from one species to another and cross into wild populations. There is also a meat market for deer, bison, elk, turkey etc.... Which is why aggressive regulation and enforcement should be a priority. Farmed animals are shipped across state lines as well.

Answer this question.Which activity generates the most economic activity in Pennsylvania? The expenditures of wild deer hunters year round or the fees paid by those who purchase farm raised trophies. No shipping should be allowed.

I'm thinking several civil suits against these places would drive their insurance cost to preventable levels, the health of the commonwealths wildlife populations and the economic impact should be more than enough to win these cases or at the least have the plaintiff's close to prevent bankruptcy.
The losses that could be catastrophic to us all are entirely preventable.

IMO the PA Dept of Agriculture is giving us the big finger by allowing the transport of these sick animals.A full quarantine is in order.

Reason I ask is that I know a guy here in Franklin Co that I used to be best buds with. We drifted apart years ago, but he had a "farm" in Fulton Co, and then I think he had something going on here in Franklin Co. on a smaller scale. I'm not sure he's still in the business though.

I suspect revenue generated by hunters, outside of game farms, would be higher. Just a guess though.
