Wondering if anyone has one and what kind of performance do you get on deer with it? Any particular ammo or load that works well for you? Thanks in advance.

I hunted with a Winchester 94 .44 mag for 10 years. I flattened deer with the American Eagle 240 hollow point load.

I know it is not a long range firearm, but what would you consider to be your maximum range with that rifle/load combo?

Well......I have a Winchester 1894 in 38-55 that I load and shoot a 260gr. lead gas check bullet from. My MV is 1,600fps which is probably a bit less.....but close to what a 44 mag rifle would be. My S&W 6.5"44 Mag revolver shoots a 200gr Hornady XTP at 1,500fps......so I'm guessing they have to be close. Now, I feel very comfortable shooting a whitetail with the 38-55 out to 200 yards. But that would be the maximum. The 38-55 is very accurate....at least it's MOD (a 4" group of 5 shots from a bench) so...with a well placed shot it should get the job done. Now, I've not yet shot one with the 38-55, but I've shot several doe with my 44 S&W 200gr. XTP. The results are nothing short of devastating.

Had a M92 Rossi clone in 44 mag. Never got to kill a deer with it, but it really liked the same loads I have killed deer with in my W&W M629 revolver: 200gr Hornady XTPs. When I finally stumbled onto a minty M64 Winchester in 30-30 a few years ago, sold the 44 mag to someone that wanted it badly.
Could've killed a small doe with the Rossi the second year I had it. Drove up in my hayfield one morning before first light. Some snow, really cold. Started up a trail to where I wanted to hunt that morning and there was a doe curled up next to the trail, sound asleep. Didn't have the heart to pop the little varmint while it was asleep, so kept walking.
My self imposed limit with that rifle/load, would've most likely been around 75 yards. Very accurate with that load and I've killed deer out to around 40 yards with the revolver.
