When the regs say 2 pheasants per day and 6 possession, what exactly do they mean by possession? Is it a total of 6 in a hunting party?Or does it mean a total of 6 in your freezer? confused-smiley-013

I've always "taken" that to mean you can't have more than 6 in your freezer. Start eating if you have 6 and your going hunting.!!!!

139.2. Definitions.
The following words and terms, when used in this chapter, have the following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:
Daily limit—The maximum number permitted to be taken by one person in 1 day during the open season.
Field possession limit—The maximum number of legally taken wildlife of a species which a person may legally possess or transport between the place of taking and the person’s permanent place of residence.
Season limits—The maximum number of wildlife which may be taken during a designated open season or license year.

The book doesn,t specify where the possession is.Could be field,or I think it is like Dave said and it includes your home and what you got afield. All kiddin aside Dutch idea sounds like a way someone could legally beat the system.

Where can one find six pheasants these days? Not counting Martz's.
I haven't seen one since we quit raising/releasing them at our club, six or seven years ago.

So, you can shoot 60 pheasants, and give them away, and thats ok.... right? regarding pheasants... since there is no SEASON OR YEARLY LIMIT one could legally shoot 60 pheasant and keep all 60 in their freezer, or give some away, whatever... As long as the daily limit is followed. You can shoot two a day for thirty days but cant shoot three a day for twenty days...
the possession limit has nothing to do with what is in freezer but only only applies to the amount between the place where the game was taken and your home. ie/ if you were at camp for 5 days and pheasant hunting you could only have in you possession 6 pheasant... You could shoot 10 (2/day), but you could only possess 6. You would have to eat 4 while you were in camp. If you had ten pheasant in your freezer at home no one would care. Certainly not me anyways...
Good hunting!

I know a PGC employee that intentionally hunted an area where another employee was doing a banding study for woodcock. He killed 13 woodcock trying to get a banded one. He got one.
WTF? What a POS.

Lots of guys fill their freezers with trout by "limiting out" as often as they can and following the stocking schedule. A lot of them throw most, or all, of these fish out in the spring time only to fill it again. Catch and release is not part of their vocabulary and they would rather be seen toting around a stringer full of fish than releasing a trout they have no intention of eating. Game hogs, fish hogs-cut from the same cloth.
I was never quite sure of the possession thing either.

It,s a shame that there are people out there that abuse the sporting events that we luv.A PGC employee that is hired to protect these resources and does what Dutch says is very disturbing and sad.

Just keep them in somebody else's freezer solves the possession problem...

I'm coming back to PA tomorrow . I was supposed to be getting a couple days of pheasant hunting in but now that's shot to h#ll because I'm not allowed any recoil. At least I can Turkey hunt with my .22 mag! I will miss those pheasants though.
