I got an email from Remington today...
"A new rifle from the masterminds who brought you the Model 700. Coming Soon."
Any speculations?

I read in my latest issue of Guns 'n Ammo that a new cartridge was going to be "announced" this year. But I can't imagine what it would "cover" that isn't already out there.

Well, it does say RIFLE in the email... I bet they phase out the P.O.S. 770 and super low-end 700 SPL and come out with a scoped-combo to compete with the American-made Savage Trophy Hunter and Ruger American.

Marketing. Need new stuff to sell. Business. Business. Business. I will be disappointed if it's zombie related or tacti-kool.
I really think they were forced to get serious with an entry level rifle by Ruger & Savage (and others). Sort of the opposite of the Versamax... which is a step above the 11-87, but a tad steep $ for entry level / dabblers. The 700 is a tad steep for entry level considering what's out there. Remington has nothing that can even compare to the Ruger American or Savage Trophy Hunter XP package.
All of this is relative of course, given anyone's budget. But I'd put my money where my mouth is on this one. We're going to see some sort of "nick-named" Versa-700-max-Niner.

I just hope they don't standardize any wildcat rounds. They already killed the 6mm, .260, and .280. All incredibly fine cartridges that deserved better. And I hope they don't come out with anymore bolt rifles that accidentally discharge, have the bolt handles snap off, the extractors break, and now the triggers even snap off. Remington is the epitome of junk.

Black Bolt Action with Picatinny rails.. Interesting. A version of the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle...? Yeah, that's solid speculation right there.

Well that didn't take long: "Remington's newest bolt-action rifle is the Model 783. The "7" in the model designation comes from the 700 line of rifles, the "8" is kind of a throwback to the affordable but reliable model 788, which was discontinued 20 years ago, and the "3" is for the three in 2013. The suggested retail price is $451, but you can expect street prices to be closer to $400.""According to John Fink, senior product manager for rifles with The Freedom Group, the model 783 was designed with accuracy, durability and reliability as key elements. It is intended to fill the gap between the Remington Model 770 and Model 700 SPS, and it is being built in America's largest rifle manufacturing facility located in Mayfield, Ky."www.americanrifleman.org/articles/remington-783-review/Seems to be a direct competitor to the Ruger American Rifle, based upon many features, including trigger style and initial featured cartridges.

Remington is the epitome of junk. I do like my 260 in Model 7. My brother has a 280 in the Mountain rifle and its a great gun. As for quality issues, as I don't keep up on guns, I was not aware that Remington had fallen so far. I do know that when my brother talks about guns, the Remingon name no longer comes up.

I just hope this is better than the abysmal model 710 and 770 series. I actually hope they discontinue the 770. Who knows maybe this 783 will be half decent? Marlin and Ruger have figured out how to build good quality budget rifles, maybe Remington has now?

Another 17 How dissappointing! I was so hoping for a .20 caliber rimfire. Something more along the lines of the 5mm Remington.

They probably couldn't offer it for less than $500 in todays market.

As good as stuff like the Ruger american and the better Savage rifles are, the 788 was still a heck of a lot more sturdy rifle.

The CZ550 is the best rifle for the money on the market today. If they made that gun in the USA it would cost $400 more. That's the truth, I heard that from a CZ rep.
