Generally speaking, how long should a plot planted in clover last before a complete replant of the plot needs to be done? Lets also say that you don't spray for weeds or grass, just mow it when necessary.

3-5 years if you start with a clear area, weed free.

Depends on the ground but Jim is right with about 5 years unless you do a lot of spraying. Usually years 2 & 3 are the best.

Yes, three years is about tops.
In the spring of year three, if you spray with a light mix of Roundup, you will kill the grasses and weeds, and the clover will comeback nicely.
Also, if you frost seed a bit of cover every year, it will extend the plot.
