It has to be over ten years now that I purchased a used Lee Challenger single stage press to delve into reloading. It was a pretty simple set up that I bought from a local gun shop. I don't recall what I paid, but I did get the press, a balance beam scale (which I still have) a loading block, and a few other "required" items that a beginner must have. Well, I have upgraded since but I still kept the Lee. I pulled it out a few months ago to set up my 6.5 long range seating die on it...as the Lee did not use the quick change gizmo's and therefore, had no play in it. However, the handle came loose and I simply tightened it up.....not realizing that (as you can see from the picture) the small cut at the bottom MUST be aligned with the aluminum transfer bar. If not the aluminum cast bar will break. (As you can see from the pic) So, I called Lee and told them the foolish thing that I did....and knowing the press was no longer being made I just thought I'd take a stab and see if anything could be done. Well...much to my surprise, Lee now makes steel parts to replace the cast aluminum....plus even though I broke the press because of my ineptness, AND I was NOT the original buyer (and I told her this) Lee gave me all of the parts....now get this.....FOR FREE!! Yes....knock me over with a feather. I paid shipping of $12. So.....I know Lee doesn't always make the "high end" stuff for reloading.....but a bunch of their products do stand up side by side with the others, AND their cost is much less. And with customer service like this....how can you go wrong??!!

I also have a Challenger press. Never had a problem with it. I bought it to decap brass before putting them in the tumbler to clean them. A few weeks ago, the decap die somehow got broke. Bent the innards all to heck. I think I will call Lee and see if they can send me a new shaft and pin. In the past, RCBS's service has been pretty much the same as you described.
