Last evening I was perusing thru my wife's late uncle's 1962 Speer handloading book and came across this jewel of a cartridge!! Now....who either has one? Or is about to order one??

If I recall the 240 Page Super Pooper was the original 6MM/244 Remington, developed by Warren Page and then taken up by Remington with some minor case shoulder changes. I think.

Well......the load manual shows a separate cartridge called the .244 Remington...which they state is a .257 Roberts necked down and with a slightly steeper shoulder. They go on to blurb that the .244 Rem has a little bit larger case capacity of .205 CI vs. the .243 that as a case capacity of .192 CI.

That Romanelli cat had a recent segment in Game News(he has a fairly regular column), and I believe he listed those cartridges you mentioned, their evolution, and how they've made out over time.

There's a lot of "editorial" slant to the various cartridges they have listed in the old '62 Speer edition Reloading Manual. Not just facts!! No...No!!.....The editors blurb about a lot of firearm related matters of why some caliber\cartridges are "weak" and others are "True hunter's all around favorites". They even have a chart that list velocity changes by temperature changes that goes from 0 degrees to 100 degrees. It's almost a full page in increments of ten degrees with various velocity "start" points. I believe they chose start points based upon the cartridges in the load book. Just a SWAG on my part.

Maub... who forgets the power of GOOGLE. Yeah, I was a real gunny back in the day. Read about and shot everything I could get my hands on. Strange, but having gone through all those different cartridges over the years the ones I use now to hunt with most are a 300 Savage, 270 Winchester, and two 30-30's...75-100 year old cartridges. confused-smiley-013 Muab
