Put up ten boxes yesterday and on this mornings walk saw two males sitting on one box (not that there's anything wrong with that) but I don't want the neighbors talking... badday

I built 9 boxes this winter. I've gotten half of them up and must get busy getting the rest out. I really enjoy checking them through the year. Have gotten Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, and Chickadees to use them. Hoping for Nuthatches and Titmice some day.

I have read, bluebird boxes need to be about 100 yards apart. The males are territorial. However, a tip I got from a WCO several years ago works like a charm. Put two boxes back to back. The Bluebirds will use one side, and Tree Swallows will use the other. They tolerant each other pretty well. Works for me.

No action here yet, but about a month ago a "swarm" of them showed up and stayed for an hour or two. Just passing thru, be my guess?

I used to put two boxes on a board separated by about 18 inches. We had swallows and blue birds in them at the same time. When they rotted away, I never replaced them. Now, I have more than a dozen blue bird boxes around the place. Most of them within 50 yards of each other and a couple within 20 yards. We have a nesting pair right now and another pair that seem to be ready to nest, in a box about 75 yards from the first pair. I noticed on our trip to Middle Creek last spring that the PGC had blue bird boxes 20 - 50 yards apart.....? Here, nest building on February 21st.
