I just got 100 Sierra 150gr soft points in to load up for the 30-30. I have several of the powder choices that Hodgdon recommends, so I've just loaded up ten rounds with 35gr of BL-C2. Why? Because I still have a few pounds left from the days of my old Contender. I have other powders as well like Varget and most of the IMR powders that are listed for the 30-30. But, if you reload for it, what do you find is the most accurate?
Thanks

Dave I've loaded the 30-30 Win on and off again over the years and mainly I've used IMR 3031 and 150 gr. Sierras or Speer Flatnose. Also had a fling with IMR 4064 and Hornady 170's. Having said that, and having reloaded for a multitude of cartridges over 40 years and having been always able to get more accuracy out of my handloads than factory loads; I can not reload my 30-30's more accurately then factory loads - Winchester 150 gr. Power Points...pisses me off! I think it's in my dies/press as they need tweaked just right to keep neck run-out to a minimum...who knows, but the 30-30 is the one cartridge (after the 22 Hornet) that's truly humbled me.

Thanks Muab. I have a few pounds of IMR 3031 so I'll load up 15 rounds of "test" cartridges using that. As for neck runout have you ever tried using the Lee Collet die for sizing? I've never had any die give a more consistent neck concentricity than the "lowly" Lee Collet die. In fact, right now I'm loading up new brass (Privin) so I'm F\L sizing it for the first time. I didn't even check the concentricity of it....but I'll throw a few in the "meter" to check 'em. Then if they are out more than a few thousands, I'll re-size 'em with the collet die and see what that does. I won't be shooting these until the weather warms up. I like to shoot....but not in this cold and wind.
